Only watched NC State game so far but wow is Clemson's DL overrated. Good post ^ btw.
ND and VT were supposed to have good DLs and those were 2 of the best rushing days for Miami. FSU was the best DL Miami will face this year.
NC State consistently got 3+ YPC vs. Clemson and their DTs in particular were invisible. They don't penetrate upfield like McIntosh and Norton and on film they aren't as stout at the point of attack as ND's front.
Ferrell is athletic in space and capable of using his length for coverage sacks but none of their DL are dynamic 1on1 rushers. They rely on blitzes to get to the QB like Miami relies on games and blitzes with the odd Garvin rush or Harris effort sack.
(full scouting writeup coming tomorrow with a focus on Clemson's offense)
I've made it through 3 games so far. I guess it's relative depending on what you consider they're "rated." They are talented. You disagree with that view? I still think we're relatively ok in pass pro - especially when we're not incredibly predictable (based on down, distance, scenario). Clemson's D also disguises better other teams I've watched, so that's something to consider in terms of Richt/Rosier.
Yeah they're talented but I don't see them as an overwhelmingly dominant DL that changes the course of a game. Even against FSU's abomination of an OL it was the backup 67 who got the most penetration. Interestingly Miami and Clemson are very similar in terms of sack profile: great on 1st and 2nd down but average on 3rd down. This supports the point I made which was that neither team has pass rushers that dominate 1on1 matchups, rather it's a group effort.
Anyways my biggest concern with the Clemson front is batted balls, especially from the DE Bryant.
I stupidly started writing my thread on here instead of in a word processor, accidentally hit back-page hotkey and lost my work. So I'll write it up again when I'm not frustrated, maybe Thursday.
KC against 99 is a disaster and will probably dash any hopes of an NFL career at least at LT.
Coach either changes the offense for this game or we get embarrassed by them...........again
Kc mcdermott was able to block Bradley Chubb last year who is a better dlineman than anyone miami has played against the last 2 years
And Josh Sweat who is very similar to Ferrell. Probably better edge speed tbh.
