For practice attendees...Lots of hype and reports on the DE's, but give us an update on the interior linemen. Specifically Ty Martin, Moten and Willis. How are they performing, improvements, size and expectations based on their practice performances? Throw in my homeboy Patchan too. Their performance will be the key for us having the best DL in the country.

Ya forgot Fines.

Next year's returning rotation at DT is going to be Fines, Martin, Ford, and Bethel. Plus whatever FR, JUCO, or transfers can make an impact.

You haven't heard? Were taking 37DB's this class because they're too talented to pass up. Randy Russel will put on 118lbs and play DT.

No guarantee that all three Kendrick Norton RJ McIntosh and Gerald Willis will be gone after this year. And no way on earth is Fines ever going to play outside of mop up duty on this team.

Hope you're right. Mcintosh/Martin/Ford/Bethel doesn't sound nearly as bleak as sticking Fines in there. lol.

Need someone who can play Norton's 1-tech role.

Look forward to his arrival, but we shouldn't have to rely on True Freshmen at DT.

Yeah ford and bethel are probably 3 techniques. Silvera fits that 1 technique mold.

Yeah thats why if anybody leaves early we better hope its McIntosh or Willis. Because it looks like we will be solid at the 3tech spot, although it definitely will hurt losing those two.

1tech: Norton - Moten - Fines
3tech: McIntosh - Willis - Martin/Bethel/Ford

Maybe McIntosh could play the 1tech if needed, but he might not be quite big enough. Silvera does look like he's gunna be a beast though.

Now some moron's gonna come on and claim we can't possibly take 37 DBs, but we know the truth don't we?

We have before though with Marcus Forston. As long as both DTs arent freshmen i think we should be fine. But it would be a perfect world if two of our three top DTs decided to stay one more season.

I know it has happened, though Forston isn't exactly an example of success. We were barely over .500 as a team and Forston had less than 20 tackles the entire season. Sure, he was named Freshman All-American, but we're building something bigger on our defense right now. There are some examples of True Frosh guys coming in and dominating. A guy like Dexter Lawrence is the exception; not the rule. He may be the #1 overall pick in a couple seasons.

For the most part, and I did a full research post on this last year (would have to find it), it takes DTs approximately 3 years to make their big leap. It is really good news for us in 2017 because you can expect a leap from Norton and Mcintosh. It's less good news for us in 2018 unless we pickup a transfer, grad Transfer, impact JuCo guy, or exception to the rule.

Of course, if Norton sticks with us for another season, sign me up. Our DE depth chart is bananas. Hoping we can get that kind of rhythm and fortune at DT, too.

I keep seeing people saying that DT is the hardest position to learn and that it takes years to make an impact. Why is that?

Have you seen how long DJ Ivey's arms are? I bet that kid has a mean swim move.
