Interesting tidbit on recruiting/evaluation

In Strength & Conditioning, I know Eric Cressey (S&C Coach for the Yankees / highly respected private coach with multiple training facilities) has cited research that - especially in baseball - specialization has been detrimental to kids. We have 14 year olds getting Tommy John surgery because they are completely blowing out their throwing arm by high school.

Multi-sport athletes with proficiency in a multitude of movement patterns are more sought after because they adapt more quickly and are more resilient to injury.
Love Cressey. Our GA when I was an asst at a Psac school came from there, he has gone on fo great things. I have sent several guys there to train and a few did internships with him.

I sat next to him at a conference and didn't realize it was him before he went up there to talk about shoulder training. The S&C world is full of wackos but he is someone I can universally recommend as "knowing his ****" lol.

Butch's MAIN thing....he abhorred Prima Donna's....the SECOND a kid started that "am I gonna start" BS....it was over. He wanted Kids that were willing to compete. That entitlement garbage stood no chance with him, nor any of his recruiters.
Do you think that coaches can take as hard of a stance in today’s climate?

Chicken Kitchen has had very bad corporate management. They still have locations in Dade-Broward, but I think they closed all the Central Florida locations.

I try to hit a CK every once in a while when I'm down for games. LOVE the Chop Chop.
If I remember correctly, the original owners went through a divorce and I think one half of them (the wife?) got to keep Chicken Kitchen while the other person opened up a similar concept starting in the Lauderdale area? This all happened a few years after I graduated in the 00s.

Widely undervalued. I want competitors. **** Alex Collins out there killing lacrosse (while funny) amped me up. Compete. Dominate. Put in work!

Love it. My kid would have yardsaled Collins though the way he is holding the stick.

Coaches get territorial, football is definitely guilty of it. I always liked to encourage kids to do sports where they are exposed to many more teams and levels of ability like track or wrestling. A football schedule can mask how good or bad an individual actually is. If you play DB on a state championship football team, but run a 12.00, maybe you aren't as good as you think. If you play LB, but can't make the state tournament in wrestling, maybe you aren't as good as you think.

And I love that Alex Collins video. As funny as it is watching him play, I guarantee you he is giving effort and thoroughly exhausted after a game/practice. You can't say the same for a guy that's spent 6 months doing the same set of cone drills with loud grunting and foot dragging. Game speed is different, the sport doesn't matter.

I remember US men's goalkeeper Tony Meola said playing basketball in high school (boxing out and positioning for rebounds) helped him deal with crosses

As to your last sentence, what happened to all the separation of school and NIL nonsense?
Just like coaches who didn’t know which players were being paid under the table.
I believe all.of Miami's NIL pools are separate from the University.

Ruiz, Top Team, and somebody else...

****! Koo Koo Roo chicken was soooo good. No one I know besides immediate family have ever heard of it.

Was listening to Ivins podcast with Cooper Petagna (who was Mario's Director of recruiting at Oregon so knows him well.) They were talking about mistakes they've made and how to learn from them.

They brought up the three DB's from Florida who play at Illinois and are all going to the Senior Bowl- Devon Witherspoonn, Sydney Brown and Jartavious Martin. They discussed how they (as well as the big 3) missed on them and and they slipped through the cracks. The commonality- all were multi-sport athletes basketball and state qualifiers in track and high production as seniors.

Another interesting tidbit- Cooper discussed how Mario has 3-4 different NIL pools he's tapping into.
As a follow up just saw that Jim Nagy now projects Brown as a top 5 safety in the draft and Witherspoon is obviously ranked as the top corner. In addition to following who Pitt recruits along the dline from Florida we should look at who Illinois recruits in state.

Dude I’m so glad this thread got bumped so I didn’t miss this. I’m reading more about this right now.

We’ve been speculating for a long time that this was an issue but the **** part is you basically need to wait a while to gather enough data and go back and analyze it. I 100% agree, the results speak for themselves. Same reason why suddenly every pitcher in the majors throws 95+ and each team seems to have at least one guy that hits 100+. **** is crazy.

Although Bielema also does a nice job evaluating.. guys like Gabe Jacas come to mind... the DBs from Illinois were evaluated under Lovie Smith's staff

Probably the only thing Lovie is still good at. Totally washed up head coach but he's got a decent eye for talent and developing DBs.

Totally agree.
The Illini staff has several coaches who have played HS or coached college ball in south Florida.
They know the area as well as anyone.
They have a kid Gabe Jacas who is reportedly a stud.
He is from Port St Lucie.
