interesting take on the offensive line after week 1 of camp

It’s a week of practice & everyone is nervous about who’s starting & who isn’t. Let’s give it a few weeks with full pads, tackling, guys getting banged up & Mirabel will anoint the best five.

Are you flipping McCoy from LG so that you have an experienced guy next to a young guy on both sides? Maybe that works, I don’t know enough about Mccoy’s comfort to say. I’d only say I rather see him in the position he already played a ton: LG. If that means one side is overloaded with experience, so be it. Concentrate the best fits/strengths instead of distribute weakness, I’d say.
 
Competition is at an all time high in the OL room. Sit back, pretend Mirabal is going to read your projected depth chart (made using expert analysis of Andrew Ivens ratings and 14 second YouTube clips) and smile come gametime. We have creatures up front.
 
If all we brought in via the portal was a back up, CMC and Mirabel must feel confident in what they have. Hard to doubt those guys when it comes to OL in year 5.

Please provide your best guess starting five and in which slots. Also, your expected rotations.

If you have some bonus time, throw in any comments on how we may or may not run more outside zone this season.

His ceiling is almost unmatchable though it’s actually encouraging to me he’s already in the mix. Might be some growing pains but I think he’s ahead of schedule still

Well we have come a LONG way since starting Zion at Florida. Talk about growing pains.

Cooper I think had 5-6 false starts in his career and they were all last year. Mauigoa had a critical penalty against Louisville

I love coop. He’s a throwback cane, was a leader and started basically his entire college career here..But he wasn’t as good as people think, thats why i keep saying i think we can have better overall guard play with mccoy moving and coop going pro

Prefacing this by saying I’ve gotten about 3 texts worth of updates so far from camp. Nobody is mentioning SJ at LG and he’s playing well from what I was told. So I’m going blind with including him but at minimum he will be on the field in short yardage.

I think it sounds like a version of the below

Okunlola
SJ/Cantwell rotating (possibly see a reverse of Rivers rotation where Samson kicks inside when Cantwell plays tackle? Would make sense for experience)
Rodriguez
Buchanan/Cogden (doubt both guard spots rotate at same rate if at all)
McCoy

It’s an interesting scenario with Cogden getting so much praise. This staff has proven they aren’t afraid to play freshman at any position but can’t remember multiple in 1 group.

Loften is going to hold big responsibility in this offense as an edge blocker and hopefully for him, more targets undernearh and in play action.

I made mention of that role of holding the unblocked edge in Duo in a thread about 10 personnel, which I hesitantly expect to see slightly more. Dawson has an entire world of options this season, and I’m curious if we’re more diverse in the run game. Some of our OL can really move and maybe we see more OZ.

i must admit, i'm not sure why folks come with those type of takes on a message board ... i've seen a few responses that talk about how early it is or the pads haven't come on yet etc etc ... as you said, "no ****, lets just close the board down if we can't discuss it"

I would expect more OZ based on late season success. Fletcher is great when it’s one cut and go. Kind of builds momentum and always falls forward.

I never expect to be full 10 personnel air raid under Mario but if loften goes down, we will likely see more 20 split zone/OZ imo. I think he’s way more important than people are talking about.

Not sure how he even won that rep, the DL had his head in his chest and hands inside.
Must have stopped his feet after contact.
Good for Ervin, technique sucked, but shows good motor.

That was the thought yes. I dont recall anyone voicing discomfort with McCoy playing RT so I just assumed that he would probably be ok at RG. Ultimately, we are just fans trying to brainstorm things on a message board so it really isn't that important where I put McCoy. However let's just flip him to LG where he has played extensively.
