interesting take on the offensive line after week 1 of camp

Be interested to see how far along they are to Bell when he got here. Seems like they’re ahead but who knows. Bell had some ups and downs but seemed to get better every week

Guys like Cooper and Mauigoa got here and looked like they belonged right away

I remember Cooper tossing people as a freshman

Crazy how many starts those two got together on the right side

I think the consensus on the board is the OL is the biggest question mark on the team (by far imo)

But we can still find ways to argue about that

Why are a lot of people thinking because Congdon is getting praise something must have happened to Cantwell? Honestly the way i read that is Okunlola is putting it together and great chance he is trotted out there as LT game 1. Real chance we see a combo at guard at any given time of: Cantwell, Congdon, and Buchanon (Choose 2). McCoy will be rotated between T/G, Cantwell will be rotated between T/G. Rodriguez seems to be most likely to be starting C and options behind him are materializing slowly. Looks like we have 6/7 we like and think can give us minutes. Where they will be is anyone's guess outside of Rodriguez

As posters have said McCoy last year struggled with pass pro, but he is a vet and has played a lot of snaps. It's up to the young guys to kick him back inside with their play. doing this allows 3 vets with either a lot of snaps played in games or a lot of time with Mirabel to mentor and hide any deficiencies with the two freshman. Also doesn't put the freshman on an island until they're adapted to the college game, while allowing a young OL fire out and move bodies which is easier than pass pro at this point for them

Only tough part with McCoy is he’s been hurt a lot

If he’s healthy he’s a lock (to me)

So maybe we haven’t seen him play as well because he’s had injuries to work though similar to Samson, but now we need to rely on them both quite a bit

One that was a beaut was that our offensive line had some false starts and missed assignments over a 16 game schedule last season and that’s why I’m excited about this new group. There's a small overlap between the group of elite players and the players who are willing to pay their dues and accept tough coaching. Cantwell is in that overlap.

I think these freshmen are just too good to keep off the field. And Joel Ervin is right around the corner and will likely start next season when Samson and McCoy have moved on. Fitzgerald and Toney displaced some good, older players.

I just wish that some people would listen to Mirabal more frequently.

He said they have 19 OLs, 3 of them were centers in HS and 16 of them were OTs.

In the spring, some of those 19 guys were either hurt or had not yet reported.

Thus, Cantwell starting in the spring was not an indication that he was absolutely our best OT. And Cantwell getting some rotations now is not an indication that he has been supplanted.

Just like McCoy and Okunlola did last year, we will rotate guys again this year to get them half games against good competition. Its perfect.

Seems simple enough. They're just cross-training Cantwell and Congdon at the guard spots, they don't intend to give significant snaps (at either guard spot) to 6'8 OLs.

Don’t think you put 2 first time players next to each other on the same side if you have other options. Time will tell.
