they have pads on ... how much difference do you think is gonna happen with bottoms? oline not tackling, so it's pretty much full go now for them ... we don't do much if any cut blocking
 
It looks like Cantwell spent most of W1 at guard, which is fine. He needs to learn that. He will get back to repping OT moving forward and more settle in. We aren’t even in full pads yet. Congdon is more equipt to play OG.

My guess on what’s happening - he was thrust into LT in the spring to test him and because we had no suitable person at that spot so it was really the only option. From what I gathered In the spring, Cantwell did okay all things considered but struggled with speed rushes.

Now, Samson is healthy and he is better at LT. so, next suitable position is LG for Cantwell given that Congdon played RG the entire spring and handled it decently. Cantwell is adjusting a bit to guard, I’m sure, but I fully expect him to at worst be rotational with buchanon and at best, be the starting LG.

Personally, I like the Samson/cantwell/RR/congdon/mccoy line. Two rookies surrounded by vets on each side. Next year, I expect Cantwell to slide back out to LT (or RT).

Its soo funny, if people actually listen to Maribal interviews he tells you everything you need to know but reporters and fans just take whatever they want and run with it, I mean RUNNNNN.. One guy says you take Cantwell day 1 and say you are gonna be my starting left tackle and Maribal corrects him immediately, "there is no starters right now, remember Samson was hurt..."

Then they turn around and say Cantwell is a bust because they made up some narrative that was never said by anyone really..

Yeah it's very strange that Samson came back after not participating in Spring.
 
I don’t understand bringing Cantwell inside when he was looking like a future all American in the spring at tackle. But, I trust Mirabal
 
That's a lot of NIL spent on a guy that may not start, something seems off IMO. I'm not putting to much stock into anything until I see a depth chart.

Genuinely asking not trying to be a ****, but how does one look like a future all American in the spring? I don’t really remember seeing any of this stuff people are referring to

Not my opinion, but it was the consensus for many insiders on this site coming off the spring. I personally didn’t attend **** and dont know ****. And it’s the reason I’m asking, how does he go from being so highly regarded after spring play to being moved inside? Are “they” full of **** or is the staff just moving him around to make him more versatile?

I have no issues with reasonable posters making reasonable assumptions. Just back it up w more than he was 4 star or he was a 5 star and that’s why he should play. Awesome analysis. One that was a beaut was that our offensive line had some false starts and missed assignments over a 16 game schedule last season and that’s why I’m excited about this new group. Those posters are unbearable and make this place brutal. Some fans should just stay in their fanboy lane w their Pom Pom’s

trying to remember the last highly rated OL that contributed immediately as a frosh...Seantrel Henderson? Cantwell really reminds me of him

Starting TF on the o-line is most always a roller coaster ride. Year one CiCi was nothing close to what we saw last year. Yes, there were impressive moments, but he lost some reps, and there were penalties. Go watch a game from '23. Cantwell is likely behind where Mauigoa was as a TF so..the cross training gets McCoy reps outside. But my guess is Matt slots inside, and we use him at T in a 'break glass in case of emergency' scenario with Cantwell. That leaves Pancake at the other T, and probly Buchanon, possibly sharing reps with Cogdon or SJ, at the other G position.
