So If samson is looking good at left tackel and mccoy is probably going to play rt then there is a way easier path for congdon to play than there is for cantwell. Add on that multiple people said max could have played last year at guard too so thats even more people naturally ahead of him

So cantwell is fighting an uphill battle at both spots, he is a tackle so he will probably have to fight with two vets to play. But if he is who we all believe then he will rise and take a spot sooner than later

I don't dislike McCoy. He has not been a good lineman. Maybe that changes, but I would rather give a freshmen the chance than a 5th year JAG. That is the lineup I'd like to see I don't believe it is realistic.
 
Starting TF on the o-line is most always a roller coaster ride. Year one CiCi was nothing close to what we saw last year. Yes, there were impressive moments, but he lost some reps, and there were penalties. Go watch a game from '23. Cantwell is likely behind where Mauigoa was as a TF so..the cross training gets McCoy reps outside. But my guess is Matt slots inside, and we use him at T in a 'break glass in case of emergency' scenario with Cantwell. That leaves Pancake at the other T, and probly Buchanon, possibly sharing reps with Cogdon or SJ, at the other G position.

If Cantwell’s blitz recognition, pass off’s, etc aren’t as good as the other guys I don’t see Mario playing Cantwell over McCoy early. Just my opinion on it. McCoy’s been here what 4 years now? Have Cantwell as the G and swing T this year, let him learn and then take over next year. I don’t hate that line of thinking personally.

Haven’t watched him at RT, but McCoy occasionally struggled in pass pro at Guard. Objectively. So, while he may be better than Cantwell at Tackle right now, I’d prefer to see it than just presume he’s a better fit out there because he has been here longer. Mario and Mirabal obviously know what they’re planning. I’m just sitting here wondering about a Tackle who struggled in pass pro inside. Hope it works out.

You have to just take that as a data point (a great datapoint but still) and try to cross reference with others and whatever clips we see.. He was sunshine Malachi Toney as well.
Spring practice us just is not as intense as Fall camp where they are getting game ready and throwing a million things at them. When Francis came in, we really didnt have players that were better than him or good players with alot of experience. We have that so if he is not 100% and all the calls and adjustments, he gonna have to ride the pine.

Cooper I think had 5-6 false starts in his career and they were all last year. Mauigoa had a critical penalty against Louisville

It was them running down the clock thay caused alot of that. Imo

This line appears to be ultra talented and may very well match or exceed the 2023 line but we still need to see it on the field. My hope and expectation is that we are good enough when Clemson rolls around in game 5 and much better when we take on Notre Dame in November.

That’s how I read it as well. Interesting indeed.

I haven’t seen Congdon take one single snap. When he committed, my initial thought was “decent project prospect.” He was much lighter and from small town Ohio. Literally from that moment til today, every single time I hear his name mentioned, it’s about his weight gain, his work ethic, his bend, and so on. If 60% of it is true, we have a monster on our hands. I can’t wait to actually see him taking snaps.

Typically who would you trust for OL prospect production: Ohio or Missouri?

They’re both massive dudes. If they rotate with each other at left guard between Okunlola and Rodriguez that’s not a bad option to get them starter-ready.

If you told me both prospects were “the same,” of course I would pick Ohio every single time. However, Cantwell was #1 OT and Congdon was a middle of the road 4 star. More than that though, I never saw videos of Congdon pushing 500 lbs off his chest or doing 225 for reps that would be near the top of the combine.
Also, when I think of Ohio HS football, I think Cleveland, Cincy, C’bus and Akron/Canton. Congdon is from Tusc County which is pretty rural. Just dumping my thoughts out here…
