Interesting stat on Yost as an OC candidate

The Yards Per Pass, 3rd Down %, and Redzone TD % numbers are very disconcerting.

As a lawyer, when I have to explain away too many issues on a client’s case to an insurance company, I know I’m going to struggle with the case. Same thing I’ve noticed with coaches. When fans have to make too many explanations for the failures in certain areas it’s not a great sign.

Statistically speaking in the formula i use to evaluate an offense the 4 playoff teams are ranked 3, 1, 5, 2 in offense respectively. Factors in all of the stats i quoted to you there and then some.

The only team piercing that top 4 is Navy at 4 and we're not taking on the triple option. The only other teams close to that with any consistency are Alabama (6th), Ohio (7th), Louisiana Lafayette (8th), Hawaii (9th), Air Force (10th), and Utah (11th).

Either we're not stealing a coordinator from one of those programs, they run a triple option, or their playcaller is the HC and not coming here as OC. This hire is going to have to involve a lot of analytics and projecting success because there no sure bet name out there thats realistically attainable besides Albin at Ohio (very surprised to see his offense in this list but they have been top 15 3 years straight in my formula)

Looking back a few years would point out guys like Briles at Houston was 7th in 2018 and 11th at FAU in 2017, Norvell was top 5 in 2017 and 2018 at Memphis, Georgia was top 10 in 2017 and 2018 before falling to 36 this year (lol Coley), Enos was 9th at Arkansas in 2015, Kingsbury was good at TTU, and Fedora had the 3rd best offense at UNC in 2015 when they had their ACC title appearance.

Proven options in cfb are limited. The good ones continue to be swept up into HC jobs or they're being paid what they want at top programs.

Robes, you know I’m not going for the cheap Jeff Daniels rehash on Yost. He’s not going to hitch his cart to the lisping horse here, so I’m not going in the lab on Yost.

I’d say there’s a .5% chance we get this guy given what I’ve read about him. That goes down to .37% if he is still in touch with Tooligowski and reaches out to him for input on Manure.

Those are very precise calculations...

Miami was 122nd in sack percentage this year.

Texas Tech, with Yost as OC, finished 6th this year. Utah State finished 2nd in 2018 under Yost. Missouri was annually a Top 25 team in sack percentage under Yost.

The biggest reason is that Yost loves throwing screens. This may be a nice fit with our young OL.
@DMoney You have the pick.. point blank who do you want?

Yost would be another terrible hire...

You dummies regurgitate the same names every year

I am going to have to agree.

I am getting the same vibe as Whipple and Golden.

I remember when those names were whispered about on the boards.

It seems when this board falls in love with someone its because someone inside the program has some connection.

That isn't the best way to choose coaches.

I am also deeply skeptical of anyone @DMoney praises. Lol.

More screens ughhh
Doesn't have to be just screens. How about dump off passes and swing passes to the RBs? Quick hitters to the TEs? Enos asked a very young, not so talented offensive line to play like the Wisconsin line and hold their blocks for an extended period of time while complex routes developed. Our OL is not good, but it is better than that of many lower level teams that don't give up anywhere near as many sacks, and manage to make room for their RBs to run, against similar competition. Our offensive scheme simply made no sense at all.

Do you have any interesting stats on Robert Knowles?

^ Manny today after looking at his first year body of work ( Dreck ).

Get me Brady ( Tommy or Joey ), or David Yost immediately. Done wasting kids talent on broken schemes, because grown men are trying to show the world their the smartest cats in the room.

He can exploit you with both....You want a Kick *** Spread Off??....Not a problem...you want a All Out Aerial Assault??....Done that....
Facts. And he can run the ball down your throat at ease if he wants. I.E. my ol good friend Tony Temple when he was at Mizzou vs Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl.
David Yost is very adaptable, loves his TEs, can make star WRs, can make a serviceable QB into a Heisman contender and his offensive unit will play hard for him.

More screens ughhh

Louisiana Tech tried to bail us out with screens yesterday. Frierson picked off an always-brilliant third down screen pass. Then on the subsequent Louisiana Tech possession they had 3rd and 3 with ability to run out the clock until Holtz brainstormed another third down screen pass. It was wiped out and the quarterback had to throw it straight down.

I want to see balls thrown down field.....seen enough screen between Enos and Richt throwing 15 bubble screens every game

Due to this thread, I went and checked out Jeff Lebby resume. Gotta say, really impressive. Seem like a future super star.

most spread offenses are just easier on the olne then a pro style. in a spread they do use a lot of quick wr screens. most spread offenses use mesh concepts which are your dump off when blitzed also. its a way to get rid of ball quickly to guy in space and allow them to make yards after catch. the spread also makes it hard to keep more then 5 or 6 in box. this helps oline as less people to account for in run and pass sets. enos made it harder by playing a lot of tight sets which put almost all 11 guys in the box. it made the olines job much harder as had to account for all the people in the box.
