Interesting stat on Yost as an OC candidate

LOCAL WEST TEXAS POLL

What grade would you give David Yost for the 2019 season?

A) 1%
B) 12%
C) 35%
D) or F) 52%

To be fair he wasn't left with much in the qb room but Tech fans aren't sold at all with him. 16 WR Screens vs Iowa St. was a huge issue.

This is addressed in the article I posted. He ran 16 screens but averaged 5.1 yard per play on those screens.

If the screen game is an extension of the run game, and a team averaged 5.1 YPC, no one would be complaining.

True. I'd be fine with Yost however its very concerning when a majority of the fan base that follows this closely gives him a D/F.

Thanks for that blurb, friend. Sounds like a CIS poster propping up one of our coaches wrote that. I’m thinking there were probably several categories where that offense was worse in 2019 but they didn’t fit the agenda of the writer. He glossed over the huge fall in PPG pretty quickly.

Agree to disagree. KK got his starting QB for seven games -- Yost only got him for three.

There's also the natural fall back that occurs when coaching staff changes. But when you go back to Yost's work at Utah State, and what amounted to building a successful offense at TTU this year, he should be a viable candidate.

2018: 16th in PPG at 37.3; 34th in Yards per attempt passing (7.9); 114th in yards per attempt rushing(3.64); 12th in total yards per game (485.2); 12th in 3rd down % (47.25%); 28th in red zone TD% (68.97%)

2019: 57th in scoring (30.5); 71st in yards per pass attempt (7.34); 66th in yards per rushing attempt (4.44); 12th in yards per game (474.3); 84th on 3rd down % (38.2%); 91st in red zone TD % (54.9%)

TTU declined everywhere except yards per rush from Kliff. The yards per game and points per game variance is concerning and shows where the struggle was - the red zone ranking 91st in scoring TDs in the redzone.

For the **** of it - Utah State in 2018: 2nd in scoring (47.5); 23rd in yards per pass attempt (8.20); 15th in yards per rush attempt (5.5); 11th in yards per game (497.4); 14th in 3rd down % (46.96%); 44th in red zone TD % (65.57%)

I believe there was 1 week left in the season in 2019 when i ran these numbers. Could be off a little.
The Yards Per Pass, 3rd Down %, and Redzone TD % numbers are very disconcerting.

As a lawyer, when I have to explain away too many issues on a client’s case to an insurance company, I know I’m going to struggle with the case. Same thing I’ve noticed with coaches. When fans have to make too many explanations for the failures in certain areas it’s not a great sign.

You're not wrong. I have no idea what Miami would offer him. I know we think poorly of our school after two decades of despicable football...but the allure of coaching/coordinating these athletes down here is a weird draw that maybe you or I do not fully understand and could be a draw for some guys. Maybe, idk.

Then again, maybe this dude just wants to hang out on the beach for a year, man.

Legend...do not tell me you aren't already in the lab, working on some fresh material like you were working on a new stand up special if we hire this guy and things go south...

Anything pertaining to Jeff Daniels is fair game and I'm sure you've got some fresh material already.
Robes, you know I’m not going for the cheap Jeff Daniels rehash on Yost. He’s not going to hitch his cart to the lisping horse here, so I’m not going in the lab on Yost.

I’d say there’s a .5% chance we get this guy given what I’ve read about him. That goes down to .37% if he is still in touch with Tooligowski and reaches out to him for input on Manure.
