Interesting stat on our running game

Explosive, but not efficient...We break off big runs, but against most defenses don't run it from down to down with any kinda success rate. We did get it going against the weaker defenses, but even then he got away from it and refused to win games against FIU and GT when it was apparent the pass game was struggling.

Correct, but nothing is more inefficient than taking a sack.

Looks like, as expected, our rushing numbers were skewed heavily by sacks. The rushing game was actually quite explosive when given an opportunity.

It is perplexing that Enos refused to run the ball. We ranked 110th in rushing percentage. Help your young OL and inconsistent QB by handing off to your excellent backs.

Loved the explosiveness we showed on those 4th and 1's v FIU, **** was nuclear

What is even more inexplicable, when the few times we did run the ball and were running it successfully, Enos decides to abandon the run. Enos is a arrogant ****ole, that really has no clue what he is doing from a play calling perspective.

I'm trying to let my anger go, after the GT game I nearly blew a gasket and was miserable for the entire weekend. Then I realized I need to just let it go and we go and win two games in somewhat impressive fashion so my excitement returned. Nothing could have prepared me for the end of the season and the huge sense of disappointment I have for this program.
Love our Canes but don't die because of it. Having been fan before Howard and in the OB for the Flop, I found it better to be very, very, very intense when they are very very good and well coached. Enjoy every single beat down and drink heavily while crying and cursing for the occasional loss. Once Berlin left we were without hope and time to pull back on the intneisty set in. For me, as soon as the reality hits each season, like UNC this year,

I start going to the casino during the games. I can glance at TV and then get back to being distracted. At least the Casino give me some free coffee once in a while instead of asking for more money after each frigging loss.

Oh yeah, I was just making it a point...Being explosive in run game is huge, Dallas and Harris both made a lot of 20+ explosive runs, but the big plays skews the ypr in the oppo direction...Not as bad as sacks skew in that direction, but definitely some skew. So we shouldn't be confused with a consistent, high-success rate running game. Isopp will be good, but success rate bad. Always nice for chunk plays...We had nice chunk plays and explosiveness in the air too, at least for an offense as bad as us.

It's sacks, 3rd down conversion rate, and success rate...The explosiveness is there in both aspects, just would have tone Oklahoma or Memphis type explosive to combat the overall lack of success rate, and even then that would bring us up to just an average offense instead of a bad one.

If the backs are doing most of the work (and I agree they are), that is all the more reason to get the ball in their hands with a simple handoff.

We aren't '95 Nebraska in the run game. But when you can't pass protect and your QBs are unreliable, you can't be one of the most pass-heavy teams in the nation.
That's a telling combination - RBs getting a lot of yards on their own, OL can't pass protect & QBs are erratic (not to mention bail on practice when lose playing time) . . . and yeah, the PK is a mental wreck.

Think what these backs would do in an Art Briles offense, one that gets the talent out in space in 1 on 1 situations (even with 2 star lineman recruits).

I can't defend anything Enos did. He wanted to use Play-action so often yet refused to consistently run the ball in most games. FIU is terrible against the run, we get pass-happy. Duke, gashing them with run, same story. I had high hopes for this dude but he is a fraud.
No ****, we didnt need to go out there and light up the scoreboard at Duke in the rain. All we had to do is constantly hand it off, mix in fresh legs every fwe downs or series if the guys were hot, and run the damned ball all the way back to Miami.

Same with FIU, our game plan was as predictable as Taco Tuesday, and and as if that wasnt bad enough...it is still lingering.

MANNY BETTER DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!!

Y'all tripping, our running game was pathetic too, we couldn't consistently move anybody and we were dependent on big runs to inflate our mediocre numbers. Now, obviously as with anything else with this offense the problem was compounded by Enos being brain dead with slow pace, calling slow developing running plays or just flat out refusing to run in the few moments we actually found a rythm

I refuse to rewatch the games, but I feel this way too. The only game where I really remember questioning why aren't we running the **** ball was against FIU. I could be wrong.

Very misleading stat.

A good running game gets yards when it has to. We didn’t show we could do that consistently the entire season.

It was a feast-or-famine running game carried by good backs. But it beats a backwards-moving passing game with no protection and erratic QBs. At the minimum, there should be more balance.

This should have been in the OP. That message will preach!

Agree. It’s what our passing game could have been if we’d connected on the 3-4 wide open long passes our QBs under or over threw every game.
