Yards-per-play is a simple, effective measure of performance. Since Coach Golden got here, each of the national champions has finished top 20 in both yards-per-play on offense and yards-per-play allowed on defense.

Our average ranking in offensive yards-per-play since 2011 (including this year) has been 18th. Our average ranking in defensive yards-per-play over that same time period has been 75th.

This year, we are currently ranked 22nd on offense and 110th on defense.

Lulz...but Golden focuses 95% of his criticism on the offense...get this fool out of Miami man

So basically Dmoney what your saying is that if Golden were to get rid of his BS defense (an stop micro managing the offense), Fire his Templites and hire a quality DC (Dave Aranda cough cough) along with some good defensive position coaches Miami would be in the Title hunt or at least be a top 10 team.

Yup that works for me.

Go Canes

DMoney do you think Golden would ever fire any of his Temple buddies to save his job if that's the ultimatum the AD and co gave him at the end of this year?

It's Golden's defense just as much as it's D'Onofrio's.

Coach D should not be the scapegoat for their performance.

2015 FBS (I-A) College Football Team Statistics Leaders for Total - ESPN

This year, we are currently ranked 22nd on offense and 110th on defense.

Where did your info come from. ESPN shows different? total defense according to ESPN is 45

None of those stats are Yards Per Play (YPP), which is what DMoney is focusing on here.

Exactly. No stat is perfect, but it is a more telling stat than total defense.

I use TeamRankings.com for the stats.

DMoney - how does our T/O margin compare with '01-'03 teams?

We have the best T/O margin in the country right now. What's scary about that stat is the fact that teams are still putting up big yardage on us every game (444 YPG), but our play makers are bailing out the defensive play calling quite often. So it begs the question, how many yards/points would VT have had if not for the 3 INTs and 1 fumble?

The shame is in it continues to look like ****...vt moved the ball at well even with the second string qb.

When can we expect an article from Susan, Manny, Matt and Christy on this? If not, I'm sure Vish is good for it.

They both should be let go for cause for being so inept and seemingly trying to get fired.
