Interesting comments on practicing physicality

That's what I was trying to tell the people back in Oct and Nov with all the nicks and bruises that's just gonna happen the first year with the new regime as guys get used to the new way things are being done and it will pay off
did it pay off tho bc oregon was often one of the more injury plagued teams under mario

How then does Alabama and Georgia avoid the injury attrition that Miami saw?
Alabama and Georgia don’t avoid injuries. They just have depth and not a massive drop in talent level between the 1’s & 2’s. Last year was one of the few times Alabama has really felt the impact with injuries when their WR’s went down.

@SWFLHurricane he learned it just from Saban? He played under JJ and coached under Butch lol. These dudes worship saban.
Tommy Moffitt beat guys down.

And Saban learned it from Bilichick, who learned it from Bill Parcelles.

But there’s nothing unique to it, ALL coaches used to practice that way. Which is why pretty much any top 10 team from the 80’s would be national champions today. Saban is just an old school coach, nothing special. His way of doing things would have been a dime a dozen back then.

A lot of coaches have gotten away from that with all the spread and air raid football you see today, plus the NCAA and their rules on practicing. And the feeling that you need to coddle this generation in order to recruit. But it used to just be normal to practice physical.

Yes. And recruiting with proper evals will identify the type of kids who are mentally tough enough to withstand that style too. It was obvious most of our roster this year wasn't bout that life.
I disagree. There’s no tougher practice in America than a Manny Diaz practice.

My bama fan friends have mentioned they get decimated by injuries a lot, but they are much better suited to dealing with it as they have tons of depth based on their crazy blue chip ratio.

Moffitt was my guy, but he was only at UM a hair over 2yrs (98-2000)...but even Dale Huelett before him & Swasey had rigorous training. Thing was, Butch's kids (@Brooklyndee included) did alot of Workouts on their own, both on campus, and off.

Bro, the 1992-1994 teams had every member bare-knucking and even brass-knuckling each other. None have a full set of teeth. All have carpal tunnel.

And they washed it down with Jameson.

I know some of it is depth as some have mentioned, but I always have to wonder if some of it can be attributed to steroids or other PEDs, as they can be used to aid in injury recovery too.
