Seems like there isn't enough actual football talk on here these days. I'm fully aware trolls may over take this thread but This will be our first game where the outcome isn't pre determined and wanna see what kinda team we are going against.

Any posters on here in the know about app state and their tendencies? What kind of formations they run and at what tempo

They went 11-2 last year and should have beaten a Tennessee team two weeks ago that just handled VT last night (although football changes weekly so those are probably independent)

We are more talented and I think a big thing people are forgetting is that we haven't shown our playbook fully yet and richt hasn't called plays since '06 so I doubt app has much film to prepare themselves on

Can't imagine they have the defensive front to deal with our run game the way it's worked so far this year especially with Marquez leading the way

I'll post some Video from their games after while but just wanted to see what people are expecting will be our challenges if any

Speaking of VT.

That is the most mentally weak VT team I think I've ever seen in the past decade.

One fumble and the entire team calls it a day.

Not a good sign for Fuentes

They don't tend to come up on the WRs ever. They constantly play 5-7 yards off at all times if not more.

They are smaller than us and as seen in the UT game once they started cramping up their depth really started biting them.

They like to run a lot out of the pistol and shotgun sets. They don't go under center a ton.

They have one good corner, but if he is matched on Coley that's a battle we win over and over. If Kaaya gets time and plays like we're used to him playing, then it'll be a long day for their secondary.

They are well coached, but lack some speed on offense and their QB can be inaccurate at times.

Overall Kaaya would have to be 6-17 again and we'd have to shoot ourselves in the foot in all 3 phases for them to win. We think we lack depth for our standards, but late in the game when we're rotating guys in, they'll be able to handle themselves against who they are rotating in. Njoku and Herndon should both have field days over the middle if Richt opens the book up a bit and runs more crossing routes with those two. I can also see more and more swings if they decide to not bring their DBs up like they hardly did against UT. If AR or Coley get some open space it will be goodnight. If the OL can handle their own and Walton and yearby are going 5+ a pop, then they will bring the safeties up and if the DBs are up any, then expect Coley and AR to be sent deep quite a bit.

Based on this film, they don't have a legitimate playmaker on the outside & our speed on the DLine will give them problems.

Only way we lose is if Kaaya has another bad game, which I highly doubt will happen.

We'll open up the playbook and stretch the field, they don't have one defender who can cover Njoku or Herndon & their Dline is undersized, which means Walton & Yearby will eat.

Also, they haven't beaten a Power 5 team in 9 years, they simply don't have enough talent to keep up.

Their QB sucks, decent running back they have an active D Line they can provide pressure and an impressive Freshman CB #25 . Miami however is far more talented and as long as we show up handle our business we should win by more than 2 TD's. Won't be a cake walk tho.

Do they throw it around a lot?

They tend to be run first with a good amount of sweeps. Our team speed should swallow a lot of those up. We'll need the guys up the middle to keep doing what that hey have the first two games and force them into 3rd and medium or long because they know their QB doesn't thread the needle as well as you'd like which is why they tend to run on the early downs.

Thanks.

Honestly seems like we match up well with what they try to do.

I'd be more worried if they threw it around a bunch.

Their QB, Lamb, was 15-23 for 108 yards, 1 td, 1 int against UT. Against ODU yesterday he was 14-21 for 181 yards, 1 int.

If you are worried about the offensive line play against FAU then you will need to worry about it against App. Kaaya is least mobile of the first three QB's will have faced and with two outside backers running 4.5's (both will be split out in instances where the offensive runs trips to one side or the other to play a hybrid safety type role) they will be able to get after him.

Defensive players to watch: #88 John Law, #28 Devin Stringer, #45 Eric Boggs, #6 Keenan Gilchrist (forced fumble on Dobbs that UTk recovered in the end zone).

Offensive has been a sore spot due to Lamb (#1 1) holding on to the ball for far too long. He almost seems afraid to air it out which may be due to familiarity issues with three new starting receivers however you all are right about the identity of the offense; run, run and run some more. With the #3 rated offensive line by PFF from last season and the #1 run blocker in the country according to PFF, it should be a strength. Cox has 24 career 100 yard rushing games including being one of two backs to run for 100 against Clemson last year (Derrick Henry was the other) and for more than 100 against UTk. With the youth on Miami's defense, this is going to be a game of where did the ball go and if they lose their gap integrity, they will lose that play.

The game will be set up with the run and Lamb will be relied on to execute play-action passes, mostly to the TE, and flag routes. He is an excellent ball handler and makes some of the best decisions i've seen in an option offense. That said, running a zone defense should be enough to keep passing to a minimum as Lamb doesn't have the strongest arm and as I said previously, has a propensity to sight throw instead of operate on timing.

I will be there on the 45 yard line, about 20 rows up and if previous games are any indication, this should be a good game.

If you all want to play transitive property, such as App plays in the Sun Belt so we have no business playing them. Clemson only scored 41 on App last year.:officemoon:

Basically 1 good corner, 1 good LB, 1 good DL. Good RB, quality OL, well coached team.

Kaaya on Saturday was still as good of a passer as Dobbs. Anything better than FAU and Kaaya will have 400 and 4 TDs. We can run all over them. Our run D is way better than UT from what I've seen thus far.

Their QB can't throw enough to hurt us, so I expect us to run the jail break attack again like FAU. They may neutralize us with quick screens/bubble screens, if we tackle well in the secondary that's no problem.

I expect us to score about like FAU 35-45 points, possibly more depending on how quick they start cramping up, and hold them to 14 or less. We probably have about 15 tfl.

My take away from that piece:

The Mountaineers play to overflow crowds on a regular basis at 23,150-seat Kidd-Brewer Stadium, where they are 77-15 in their last 92 games. The local attendance record of 31,528 is guaranteed to fall Saturday. The game has been sold-out for weeks, with a few tickets remaining on StubHub starting at $175. That’s about four times the value of a normal App State ticket.

LMAO @ a 32K crowd being considered a big deal.

I'm not sure where these crazy point spreads are coming from. I think we line up good against them. Their offense is predicated on the run, which is our strength. Their QB is not going to save them. If Kaaya shows up, we are a very balanced team with lots of options. So unless we have a bunch of turnovers, were good...

They run a lot of option, good practice for GT.

Not sure how much option they run. The tailback Cox has 248 yards rushing, and their QB has 32. Cox also has their only receiving TD. Stop him and we win the game.

The triple option is a lot different than a spread option

agree with this however always good for our players to get experience dealing with ball carrier- pitch man situation as that will transition us well into GT
