Watching the highlights again from VT and being an “over-thinker”… with the inadvertent whistle call, why do they need to go to replay to prove or disapprove it?

Can the zebras not just get together and talk about it and one of them be like, “yeah my bad, it was me.”

I mean talk about no integrity. Relying on technology instead of just being human and admit you made a mistake (which refs never have to do anyway).

Thoughts?

They weren't reviewing if it was an actual inadvertent whistle, they were reviewing if they QB was down before he released the ball. Enforcement of inadvertent whistles is dependent on if its still a run play or if the ball is loose. The fact the ball was loose during the legal forward pass makes the only option to replay the down. If the whistle would have came after VT receiver gained possession, they would have had the option to have 4th down where the ball was at time of the whistle or replay 3rd from previous spot. At least thats the high school enforcement

Makes sense, since the Officials already acknowledged they made an inadvertent whistle on the original call. So one of them already owned it.

Oh yeah white hat blew it. I was at the game and you could clearly hear the whistle live, while the ball was in the air. I was sure he would be down, incredible he got that pass off

The white hat is the one who blew his whistle because he was ruling the QB was down before the throw.
Which is just bad officiating. Just let the play run to conclusion and get a quick replay review afterwards. Or hold onto the whistle and then rule that he was down. I'm glad it went our way, but I want the ACC officiating to pull their heads out of their azzes.

It was bad officiating. Everyone is trained to see the ball in possession of the player on the ground before blowing the whistle. It should be way easier for the guys at that level because they have replay to save their asses on bang bang plays like that. He was also incredibly lazy because he just stood there and let the play blow up right in his lap so he basically made a call up for no reason

Either way the Defense stops when they hear the whistle especially after the smu BS
The upheaval was ridiculous

Miami fans saying we got lucky were full of ****

Riddick and co being up in arms about VT getting screwed were full of ****

The VT coaches losing their minds were full of ****

You want a team that ACTUALLY got screwed by an inadvertent whistle that would be us earlier in the season

If there’s no whistle we get the stop and get the ball

If anything it was a break for VT because they got another shot at getting the first down

There have been so many quick whistles this season it's weird... but at the same time I like how all the announcers said they thought the QB was down before he threw it but then after they watched the reply acted like they had no idea why they blew the whistle. Most ACC announcers are just as bad as the refs...

It was a bad call yes. But it negated a 1st down and what, a 14 yard gain and hey, at least they got to replay the down! At that point they were already down 3 scores around midfield so it’s not like, ya know, it costed VT the game like how about 4 **** calls decided our game against SMU. So I have zero sympathy for VT, nor does this change my mind about how we’ve been treated by officials this season.
