I'm watching you Coley.....

We run too much shotgun. Good play callers have a feel for THAT game. Just like our defense, we just seem to come out with the same plan, no matter who we play. Just call plays to call them. IMO we should be running more power O with Tucker at fulllback. It seems our only plan is trying to get every receiver 1 catch every game.

going shotgun spread is actually 1 of the few things that I agree with him doing . It allows your freshman QB to dissect the defensive coverage pre snap & see where the pressure is coming from. This whole theory of us running a power run game makes no sense to me. Our weakness (even before the injuries) was the O-line. Our strength? skilled positions. You go shotgun spread 3 WR Duke &/or Yearby and force the defense to play nickle. if the safeties stay back, you run...safeties in the box, you pass. it's simple. Same simple concepts that our defense coordinator fails to understand...

Cincinnati is 124th in Overall Defense.

My guess is Coley's play calling will look pretty good this game.

Why doesn't it work for us Than? No one is going to play man against us on 1st and 2nd down with 4 wides. they are going to play zone and make Kaaya read the defense. There is a reason Kaaya has thrown a lot of interceptions and its not because our receivers can't win 1on1s. My only point was if we can effectively establish a physical line of scrimmage, we will get more man coverage against us. those are easy reads for any QB, especially a true freshman.

Have you seen our ability to block in power sets? Its awful and has been for the last 3 years.

Since Louisville our oline has been pretty good. having a power running game is just as much of an attitude and philosophy than anything else. Our coaches don't demand it, live it, practice it so my point is moot. Whipple was the last OC we had that attempted it. So we will spend the rest of the season watching bubble screens and lead draws while we are in our 3 and 4 wides. During second halves we will watch our young QB throw it to the other team like he has all year. the shame is the kid is a great ball handler and the few playfakes we use in games look good.

I know that everyone wants to **** on the D. And rightfully so. However, C.Coley if you can't get more than 17 points against GT then your ****ing terrible in my eyes. That team blew. And again, was one of the worst called games I have seen. You are 99th in the nation in rushing with what is regarded as the best back in the conference. That is pathetic. You suck at 3rd and short for the second year in a row. Your play calling is pathetic. CFB is an OFFENSIVE game. If you have a great offense you can win a majority of your games. Look at Oregon, Baylor, OSU, heck even Arizona right now. These teams are average defensively, but their offenses are great. This offense should be great. With even a little bit of creativity, you should be averaging 35 a game with the players on this team.

If you look at our most explosive players, and I mean guys who look different when they get the ball. Waters, every time he touches the ball good things happen. Duke, should be averaging 20 carries a game and still be returning kicks. Can we throw Coley and out? or a crossing route? Kid was impressive last year, but all SColey has done is used him on plays where he scored last year, screens and god. But the kid did a good job on comebacks, outs, crosses. USE him. And, I am 100% sure PD can do something other than run straight up the field, get creative and get these kids space to RUN!

Can you please teach Kaaya how to use the whole field? No one wants to criticize the kid, but he is staring guys down like a ************! Especially on his passes across the middle. You can't stare at one hash and the throw it to the other, you need to look a safety off to the other side of the field, not 6 yards away.. I mean its nice to see us using the middle, but now we don't use the sidelines at all. How about a back shoulder throw? Or a fade down the sidelines to Herb of Coley. PD is doing a nice job in traffic this season as well. But we consistently are using Walford, who gets tackled as soon as he catches the ball because he was stared at for five yards prior to the throw. That is coaching. We saw that improvement under Fisch.

Do we seriously even want to discuss the run game? I mean how many 3rd and 4 or less are we going to keep passing. ****, we pass on both downs when its 4 down territory. The play action is a complete joke. NO ONE in the ****ing COUNTRY thinks Kaaya is going to keep it so stop doing play action on third and 7 from the GUN! When a team needs a few yards they give it to their best player, and for whatever reason Coley thinks that is our qb. He did it last yr with Morris and he is doing it this year with Duke. If Duke was at a school like Cincy, he would be leading the nation in touches, yards, and probably touchdowns. Could you imagine him at a GT? Or Alabama, like momma wanted, they use their best players and they do not hold them back. We are always using guys as if we are planning for the future. its like this never ending process of developing the next guy. Eventually, you have guys that are good enough to win with and you keep using them until you are crushing a team, and THEN you get the back ups reps.

Just as the D seems to occasionally have a good game inspire of Coach D. Our offense is mediocre and its only that far in spite of the play calling. I would go a far as to say I would fire BOTH coordinators after the season. Because even if we brought in Saban to run this D, the O would find a way to lose it. If you just look at the drives, especially the important ones where we need a long possession or a TD, they are pathetic.

So while everyone else is watching AG and DO, I will be keeping my eye on you Coley. I do not think you have what it takes but your getting a free pass...... The light will be on you soon enough...

normally i would agree with you, but we can't expect him that we're going to score every time we get the ball, and well, 6-7 drives isn't enough touches for the offense.

Did you not see the lack of ToP we had? Our O didn't have a chance to get on the field. Only person to blame for the GT game is Dorito, his "scheme", and Golden for jerking it to the scheme every night when he has a fine *** wife he can attend to.
Yes, the defense did play like crap. But our offense was only stopped by our offense in that game. GT never did anything to stop us. 1st down incompletions putting us behind the chains, some dumb penalites, and interceptions are what stopped us. Had we kept feeding the ball to the RBs on our drives, we probably would have scored on ever drive.

Yep. Last 5 drives for the offense (score was 14-14):
Interception
End of half
Field Goal
Punt
Interception

Duke only had 8 carries for about 30 yards but had 3 rec. for 52 in that span.

are the INT's Coley's fault? The FG was partially his calling that horrible screen. End of half can't do much. The Punt i don't recall that sequence.

no we havent seen it on a consistent basis, actually Ive seen a lot of it working then all of a sudden switch to shotgun run a bubble screen, then predictably run on 2nd down out of shotgun and get into one of the 37 third downs we havent converted. Ive seen a lot of drives die on the 50 with this sequence, when we got to the 50 with runs and passes from under center quite nicely

Duke isn't getting enough touched

Baecause clueless joe jackson and grohlden went from running him into the ground to completely removing him from the game, these guys are always chasing their tails

have game feel, dont be so rigid, ur down 10, out the guy on KO return, punt return you see him getting hot, keep feeding him

There clueless man putting all the pressure on kaaya if they would run the ball effectively it would help him and that ugly *** 3rd down conversion stat its just comical watching these coaches call up plays the commentators are always pointing out there flawed play calling too...sh*t all I do is play madden and I'm able to call a better game plan...

This guy is almost as big a problem as donofrio, he has the talent to be scoring 60 on people, he just is clueless

Coach D is a better coordinator than Coley. (He just runs a flawed scheme) Coley has no feel to the game. He never seems to get in a rhythm... and certainly doesn't set up plays like most good OC's do.

He's in over his head... just like Jimbo knew he would be.

The U deserves better than a case of "worse and worser."

I know we won't get top tier coordinators, and definitely not a Sabanesque head coach, but we should have the pick of the litter when it comes to the up and coming coaches... We have *** right now...

Coley is working with a frosh quarterback and he only had the ball for like 6 drives in the Ga. Tech game and 2 times we had a turnover in the red-zone which is not his fault. It's not like he had the opportunity to score that many points...The D sucked so bad that he couldn't do much. On that note the trick plays and bubble screen need to stop. I also think we need to run the ball a little more.

One thing about Coley that I respect is that he publicly admitted he made a mistake against Louisville by being in the pressbox. The offense is still too "boom or bust" as one of the commentators mentioned. Hopefully this will improve.

Great summary. The mindset that wants shotgun snaps is the same one that wants bubble screens. Anything to stay away from basic power running from under center. Now that the screens are failing they steer away from those plays and refuse to admit they wanted them in the first place. But if you frequent forums like this in the offseason there are frequent calls for bubble screens, and anything finesse oriented.

Whipple is the last coordinator we had who would run the ball until the opponent proved they could stop it. Since his departure it's shown up only very briefly, like the beginning of the home Ohio State game and late in last season's roader at North Carolina.

Worst 3rd down offense in UM history.

Statistically, the offense is as much or worse a cluster fuxk than the D. The man is barely qualified to be a position coach, let alone play called, and Kim Jung Al is def not the guy to help him improve.

You wish Leach was coaching that offense now, don't you?
