I'm tired of hearing the cupboard was bare.

To me Kiffin was always the short term hire - he builds his team through transfers. By the sounds of it he was never getting an interview anyway.

Cristobal was the long play - less flashy, but has the blueprint and recruiting prowess to build us like the current Playoff teams.

I can't imagine that USC has had astronomically better recruiting classes than Miami the last 5 years.

And yet they're 5-0 and clearly moving in the positive direction in year 1 of a new Coach.

This is how I know our fans don't pay attention to much. USC did have significantly more talent, because Clay Helton, despite being mediocre was significantly better than Manny. Even when SC was struggling the last couple of seasons, they never looked as slow, as unathletic as we did. Never mind the fact that Lincoln Riley did a **** of a job of stripping the OU Roster and bringing a ton of those guys with him. He has been able to upgrade SC with experienced, HIGH END talent, combined with solid young guys. It also helps that Lincoln is one of the best playcallers in the business, and the install process was simplified, because SC was already running the same system under Helton.

Miami on the other hand had a completely broken culture, no depth, and Mario wasn't able to overhaul the roster through the portal like we wanted. Honestly, that's my biggest issue with Mario, he should have hit the portal harder than he did, because anyone that watched the film realized that we had little talent on the roster, and you needed to get rid of the cancers and the incompetence. Mario also didn't bring nearly as much talent over from Oregon as he should. Imagine if Mario would have been able to bring Dye the running back over, imagine if Miami would have been able to get some of Oregon's higher end OL and speed guys. Mario wrongly assumed that "Miami Talent" was better than what it was.

It’s crazy to type this but I’m watching Gibbs the transfer from Gtech to Bama. And I’m positive if he had transferred here we would be undefeated. That’s how much talent matters. One player and our season is totally different. All those 5 and 15 yard gains we’ve gotten this year would have been possible touchdowns. And don’t say redzone woes because he makes multiple players miss every play. He would have been scoring when we were getting stopped.
Gattis would have him tossing back flea flickers, throwing hb passes, running into crowded boxes and the board would call him trash. It wouldn't have mattered.

That's their thought process, the problem is that this fanbase and community won't let you build long term. Mario is a "We want to have a dominant program for years to come" hire, the question is can he win enough to keep the idiots at bay and build this roster out. Kiffin is guy that would win immediately(Because he would be able to scheme, especially with TVD), but you have a well defined, non championship ceiling.

Now, maybe with Kiffin winning immediately, the recruiting would pick up and he would be able to succeed, but who knows. I'm not close to giving up on Mario, but I think that I'm a lot more patient than the majority of our fanbase, most of whom ignored what Mario said all offseason about "Getting to work" and wrongly assumed that this wasn't a rebuild. Don't get me wrong, coming out and losing to MTSU is unacceptable, but this team looks exactly like the team we thought it would be, inconsistent as all ****, with a shortage of talent at key positions.

Yes it would, because every handoff would be getting more yardage with the same blocking. He's a back that can get yards when it isnt blocked up, and outrun the defense when he gets a seam. We wouldnt have to drive the field to score. Thats our main problem, we arent explosive. Next year when you see Ray Ray or B Washington take a bubble screen and break a defenders tackle and go for a 70 yard td you'll see exactly what Im talking about.

USC gets 5* every year no matter the coach dude. USC maybe hasn’t developed them as well but they recruited fine the kids in SoCal don’t disrespect USC like SoFlo kids

everything you said here is true. it's not news to anybody, but i don't think anyone will disagree.
It is a forum faux pas to use a second CiS account to agree with a post you make with your first CiS account.

db305 = fraggle. Just want you to know that I know that you know that I know--and I'll be watching.

Don’t kid yourself. He wouldn’t be doing that here.

Good point. Likewise with Texas. Take Ewers out and this is a team not much removed from last year’s 5-7 team. Keep him in and they can beat anyone, and would not only have beaten Alabama TY, but blown them out. That’s how much difference one player can make.

I'm sorry but we lacked way more than just RB & LB. Our o line & WR's are mediocre, and our corners are atrocious too. No excuses for losing to MTSU and we no doubt could have beat UNC, but we couldn't help defeat ourselves. We need innovative coordinators. But more importantly we need a top down talent infusion. Guys like Ivey, Blades, Mallory, Steed, Olawusen will all be gone next year. Replace them with capable bodies in the portal + hold this recruiting class together and you're moving in the right direction.

Why do so many look at the build for dominance for years vs can win now as such a black and white of an argument? You can do both given the division and conference we play in. Not meaning expecting to knock Clemson off their pedestal but rather win our side at least while being competitive when playing them.

I'm not touting giving up on Mario or anything close to that. He just needs to adjust to the reality of what he has available to work w/ right now and max it out best as possible. We've taken three losses that were all winnable games for us. Yesterday and MTSU especially. Enough talent to beat those teams, imo. Had we, the whole perception and mood of the program would be a 150 from what it is now.

No one was getting an interview besides Mario. Lol

What we lacked was LB's and RB's and only really got one of each rom the portal and the RB was a backup. Parrish may be our best but is not star material. Our LB depth leaves us with mediocre starters and little back up otherwise we were set if we had found 2 or 3 LB's. Why so many Defensive Linemen instead of LB from the portal? There had to be better RB's out there too, Manny brought in quality players that contributed, Mario brought in players that are no where near the quality Manny did. With what we had there is no way we should be losing and performing so poorly. Manny had Enos and changed, Mario has Gattis, what will he do? I know, our high star players are injured...will we ever see Chaney play? What happened to our speed especially on defense, we get beat deep way too often and even our WR's are slow. Well there is always next year, can't wait for the hype of pre season again where we are sure we are back...sigh!

Okay Fraggle critics take your shots.
Other than leonard Taylor and James Williams the defense can go fly a kite. And James Williams can't tackle worth a **** when it comes to it.

If your first position of need wasn’t WR, you are disqualified. @fraggle you know d@mn well X was the only reliable receiver on the roster. Even then, he wasn’t the level we had seen from our previous transfer stars Rambo or Osborn. So people who thought our passing game was Heisman level during the off season were already delusional. Now we have an O that has to transition out of Lashlee’s back into a pro style like Enos. That’s going to be a fun time for any QB.
