When Golden was at the helm, the fact that we have a month's worth of scrimmages to start the year was a direct indictment of his gross ineptitude. Now, in light of new schemes, new coaches, an openly stated reliance on freshman AND the possible suspension of two elder statesmen on D, that inexcusable slate may work out to our benefit.
The App State trip is still as dumb as it gets in major conference sports, but we've essentially got a situation where Shaq, Pinckney, Mullins (please lawd), Richards, etc should have 3 games of film to base adjustments on, prior to a single meaningful game. The coaches should have a good enough pulse on the performance of all their primary players, who's a savage when it matters, who's a violet, and so on. Searles should know which guys can be rotated in and it not collapse the pocket.
What Al intended for Evil, Richt has turned to Good.
Now if we can just get the monster who authorized the 5 day turn around between UNC and VT fired into the Sun, we might have a decent year on our hands.
