I'm even more confident now - Pate picked against us!

Pate is also a huge reason why everyone all of a sudden values power rankings and what Vegas says over the actual results on the field.

It's pretty much his whole schtick.

But yeah, he's amazing.

Is it me or do we go around looking for a reason to get up for playoff game. We know we are favored but it seems like we're looking for motivation. Were not a cult are we like AtM

Everyone wants to talk about the ACC fumbling their title game but no one wants to bring up that Bama wasn’t a deserving SEC 1 seed in a 4 way tie. The whole reason Bama was even in the playoff was because they snuck into the title game they didn’t deserve to be in. That game should have been UGA vs Ole Miss/A&M and Bama should have been slotted behind ND BYU and MIami in the rankings once they stubbed their toe against Oklahoma and looked like **** against Auburn. But since they ended up being the 1 seed 8n the SEC they were propped up.

I did a write up about his show the Sunday after the end of the regular season. It was something like 14 or 15 segments. He never talked about the Miami Pitt game. Never talked about Notre Dame. Spent half the show talking about every SEC open coaching position/hire. Spent a lot of time talking about how Vanderbilt is getting robbed and there's bunch of teams ranked ahead of them that don't deserve to be there.

I've been a fan of Pate but that episode opened my eyes to the fact that he's actually putting on an SEC college football show and not a general college football show.

it isn't a shocking prediction. its close to a pick em game on a neutral field but Kyle field is a good home field advantage. my biggest concern for the game is our ability to handle crowd noise as it relates to snap counts, pre snap penalties etc. how many penalties we get or how many plays are altered by over simplified snap counts the defense can figure out could determine the game.

His SEC bias is 100% there but I’ll bet you majority of his audience is SEC fans hence the over indexed coverage

It's a lot like paying an attorney to look at a contract to hear him say the AI didn't find any problems.
I’m just a simple man that likes to come here and read opinions even if they’re ****

Telling me what you think because what a computer says, or what the betting houses say, I dunno…not for me

I mean bama had 2 losses so no where near the same as 5 loss Duke team that lost to every out of conference team.

Imagine being a guy that gets paid as an analyst to use his brain and then finishes up by saying “the model says A&M”

****** nerd make a pick or stfu
I like Pate. He's always been pretty fair toward us IMO. I think he's one of the better analysts out there. Or maybe I'm just traumatized by hearing so much of Heather Dinich and Joey Galloway.

I don't hate that he leaned on the model. During one show, he pointed out that the numbers guys have a better track record of picking than the former coaches and players. That was his way of refuting the "eye-test" argument, which is super flawed. The narrative around Notre Dame was that they were a better team and would beat us because people said so. And that didn't happen.

But to your point -- it's not like he'll get fired for being wrong. He runs his own show.

Since you asked, I think we're going to go on an historic 4 game winning streak, but I'm trying to keep from getting too vocal about it.

bezos put out some podcast associated with the Washington Post sub info that is all AI developed (including the hosts LOL) and the stories are based on your readership that it feeds you - the problem? it was found that 2/3rds of the **** it spit out wouldnt even pass an editor.

this feels a lot like that.

fyi - attorneys have used AI for writing motions and in turn have submitted **** to judges with made up case law based on made up cases.

I don’t watch much of anything college football analysis related but I’ve always enjoyed Pate in the past

Just me *****ing in general about people pawning off stuff as their own thoughts and thinking referencing computer models or betting houses is some kind of achievement

There’s a reason people get dumber every day but I digress

Listen to the segment. He broke down the whole game and pretty much at the end said, "This one's too close for me to call, I keep going back and forth on who I think, so I'm not going to bet it". Said his model says A&M so sure, go with that, but he's not betting it. It's a predictions/betting portion of his show, there's no shame in passing on a game. Nobody bets on every single game. He genuinely feels ours is a toss-up and there are things that make him want to pick Miami and things that make him want to pick A&M. He basically went full Gaby. So at the end of the day, he said I'm going to watch and enjoy (he's going to the game), and not betting money on it. Fine by me. Stanford Steve is paid a ton of money by ESPN to put picks out on Gameday and he selects 3 games a week out of the ~65 FBS games. No issues with not betting a game if you don't like it.

Really happy Pate is blowing up, he deserves it. Very sharp and articulate guy who talks absolutely nothing besides college football, and he's on his own channel, so he doesn't have to pander to anyone. I don't consume a ton of national media but he's one of the ones I semi-regularly listen to.
