Illinois fires Beckman

This would be a great place for Al to go. He should resign immediately and interview for the position. Illinois isn't really known as a football powerhouse, so going 7-5 or 8-4 every year is seen as a success.

What make you think they want to be perrennial 7-5/8-4 program?
Believe it or not, other programs want to win too.

I have family in champaign and many relatives that are alumni and lived there for a time, it's more of a basketball school, believe me if a coach could get 7-8 wins consistently the fanbase would be happy, Illinois has always been horrible at football with occassional years when they upset an ohio st like in 2007 the fans dont expect much, many of them are upset that Ron Zook was let go, al golden could fill in nicely there as he still has reputation as a good recruiter whether thats true or not and also he'd be back in the big 10

He might fit in nicely but eventually would likely suck. His only salvation would be his home state of New Jersey and Rutgers, or the school he played at, namely Penn State.

If he wins here in 2015, as so many [not unlike me] feel Canes will be good, he's gone & out of here...and secure another 5 or more years to his career coaching & earning another $1O,OOO,OOO to $13,OOO,OOO, and then he'd enter into politiks.

The year they had Juice Williams and Rashard Mendenhall are the only year i remember them being relevant

Well he's fat enough to be the Gov in Jersey based on Chris Cristy.

They may be in the hunt for Justin Fuente ... He coached at Illinois State for 5 seasons before going to TCU.

Or, maybe they just grab Rod Carey from Northern Illinois?

Either of those guys would be easy fits, IMO.

But firing him this early in the season means they won't be hiring Golden ...

NOBODY in a major conference will hire Golden. Last place in the Coastal at the U, with NFL players at every skill position.

Almost all of his losses here have been to lesser talented teams, many MUCH less talented. No wins against teams of equal or better talent in five years.
His signature win? 4-8 Florida? 6-6 OSU*? (both teams had lame duck coaches who were already fired) 6-6 VT?

His four seasons saw his teams epically quit on him after 7 or 8 games.

He lost the South Florida recruiting base, in embarrassing fashion.

His only accomplishment is coming up with new excuses for embarrassing on field performance.

Like Coker and Radio, he is a proven disaster. If he can only win 6 games a year with NFL talent and the weakest division of any major conference, he won't win 3 games at Illinois or anywhere else.

NOBODY will hire him.

Your sarcasm needs work. But you, sir, have potential.

Illinois fans are keeping an eye on Golden

Also, some on this same board are mentioning they might get investigated by the NCAA because of Beckman. This job is ripe for Golden.

This is a perfect gig for AL. He could recruit Chicago and Indy. He would do whatever the AD wanted besides win and be fine. Illinois would prolly give him a raise too. They got the Jack. Go for it AL. Pressure free as long as you keep your mouth shut and support the Basketball program. And he would be a great coach because he would win 6 games with mid west "talent"..

What a crazy decision. Why fire him so close to the start of the season?

If only our administration had half the brains and one quarter the BALLS to make such a correct decision.

We're literally living in self imposed purgatory wrapped in a sanction.

Keep your chin up.

Firing Day is 94 away.

I hope you're right but I'll believe it when I see it.

We're dealing with incompetence of the highest order. I have zero faith in the direction of this program right now.
