In 2013, Level 4 & Level 5 inmates at Pelican Bay banded together to conduct a hunger strike to end the indeterminate SHU terms for prisoners as it was a human rights violation.
Over 30,000 inmates from rival hated prison gang organization put aside their War amongst each other & came together as a collective to participate in the Hunger strikes. The EME, NF, AB & BGF all unified under the common cause of ending the permanent SHU terms at Pelican Bay.
A lawsuit was also filed & made it to the Supreme court & in 2015 it was ruled that the CDC was in violation of the 8th & 14th amendments & immediately discontinued the indeterminate SHU program that kept inmates locked down in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day with only 1 hour of rec time for years at a time. Many of them where either let out of prison altogether or transferred to lower level 2 & 3 yards where they could be General population inmates.
If Manny is retained we have the model to follow based on the example our comrades set before us.
Remain strong & stand firm!
