If that happened, you’d be going from 5-7 and getting blown out by MTSU, to 9-4 and probably beating a decent team in a bowl game. You’d have to be very excited/optimistic for the future. Probably finish with a Top 10 class too. That would also include a Top 10 win against UL. That’s about the best case scenario you could ask for.

Would be the best season since 2017.
agreed... and since I'm in a positive canes mood today, I'll add IMO, not one single loss this year was because we were outmatched on the field and out-talented like previous years. Pretty much shot ourselves in the foot, every single loss this year.... In the past 20years, we get smoked, it's because we just don't have the talent the other teams did.

GT - coaching blunder (team on field won the game)
UNC - A decent QB and play caller away from winning (ahead at half)
NC state - QB and playbook wins EASILY...
FSU - one score & one Safety call away from upsetting #3 team in the country

and no where in the last 5-7years are we beating Clemson and A&M in a season

No positive thoughts allowed in here.

We haven't won **** in 15+ years but we're supposed to go from 5-7 to 15-0

We would have exceeded what I expected (predicted 8/4 or 7/5 I can't remember), but not over shot what I thought was possible (ceiling of 10/2). Until we fix a couple of very real problems I will feel like we have hit our ceiling in the short term, which is good and bad since we are neither underperforming, nor existing with a high enough bar for a team (fan) that hopes to see another title before I die.

A 4 game improvement wouldn't be insignificant.

But I'll never be fully on board until we secure an all world Quarterback. It's the biggest thing holding this program back.

I know there are a lot of mopes in here...

IF we win out. Finishing the season with 9 wins in a P5 conference usually means you're in the top 30ish in the country. Massive improvement from last year. It should absolutely be 10 wins without the GT debacle. I know the saying, "you are what your record says you are", but that's absolute horses***. There's a reason undefeated G5 teams don't make the playoffs. There's a reason a 2-loss LSU team went to the championship game in 2017. Context matters.

IF we win out I'll view this a 9* win (*10 win) team that overcame absolutely atrocious QB play for 2/3 of the season to beat Clemson, Texas A&M, played #4 FSU down to the wire in Tallahassee, beat #9 Louisville, and won a bowl game for the first time since 2016. I know the season could have been special if TVD and Dawson didn't have mental collapses, and that's cause for concern going forward, but if what I just said actually happens then it'll be tough to argue that the season wasn't a huge jump over last year.

IF that's how we end this year then my expectation for Mario next year is a 10-2 season, competing for an ACCCG.

Last time we did this mark richt and manny went stunting and flossing with their cheese it bowl trophy
That is how we signed the class in 2018
So I see the same

an ATM team that fired their coach and a clesmon team that may lose 5 games this year (already lost 4)?

Put me in the cautiously optimistic column if they win out. With the QB situation being what it is they’d have to seriously pull a rabbit out of a hat to win three in a row. So, we’ll see.

At the start of the year we had 2 new coordinators so it was wait to see how that goes, then Texas A&M happened and the offense was humming the 1st 4 games and the defense looked improved, and then Georgia Tech happened and the offense is in the gutter while the defense is firing on all cylinders. Now winning the next 2 would obviously be outstanding and losing the next 2 would be devastating and the way we watch our offense stutter **** near every game it gives a sense of false hope. If we go into next season with the coordinators intact then maybe we can see improvement from the offense, I don’t know, but the defense should be decent. Pretty sure someone probably already posted what I wrote so some people feel the same way. So, cautiously optimistic for me.

Optimistic but cautious.

This is going to be a massive off-season for the trajectory of the program, and it’s only magnified by how charmin soft our schedule is (on paper) in ‘24.

8-4 and a Top10 win (f^ck a bowl game) gives us some much-needed ammunition on the trail.

seems the majority of this board have the same mentality as the geniuses that were calling for Butch's head
