If Al Golden wouldve fired D'No....

Golden would still be coach. D'Onofrio was his problem. Although D'Onofrio will be a good position coach again sometime most likely next year (even possibly in the NFL), he was not a good coordinator for Miami. Al Golden is better as a head coach than people think. He had to get through the sanctions and people are not fair in assessing him properly. Should he have won more? Yes...if he would have made better choices with assistants.

OK Mrs. Golden, whatever you say.

A HC is only as good as his assistants. If AG had the right people he'd still be here.

Had an interesting debate today with a friend of mine who is also a Miami fan. The question that was raised was, "If Al Golden would've fired D'No and hired Manny to run his D before the 2014 season, what would the result have been?"

I think we still would've lost to Louisville but I think we run the table after that, that's assuming all other factors stay the same. If that happens, what happens in the ACC champ game? Would we make the playoff? How would recruiting have been affected? Had a pretty good debate about it. My boy thinks that they still wouldve lost 5-6 games because Golden just sucks. Obviously its something that we'll never know, just something interesting to think about since the season is pretty much over.

It was Golden's defense...he wasn't going to hire someone who would've ran anything different.
D'no didn't get fired because he was doing exactly what was expected of him. You can't fire people for doing what you ask of them, well you can but you look like the moron moving forward.

A head coach may only be good as his assistants, but head coaches don't typically hire DCs whose philosophies are in direct conflict with their own. Manny's a blitzing lunatic who rather die by aggression. Golden's style was the opposite. It would have required an entirely different defensive staff. I don't think this is a feasible "what if."

Nothing would have changed. Golden was an absolute failure. We got blown out in nearly every game against top teams. Golden had zero clue what he was doing. It would have been the same ****. A coordinator doesn't change that. Reminds me of when Randy hired Bill Young and gave up the reins of his D...no difference because Randy was a bad head coach. And it was Golden's defense anyway.

Exactly. It starts and ends there.

It would have required Golden to take a totally "hands-off" approach to coaching for him to have been successful here. It was HIS defense that D'Onofrio was running. It was HIS philosophy to try to make his players as heavy as possible. Maybe, if Al would have just stuck to being the used car salesman he is and just focused on recruiting and running a clean program, some capable assistants could have handled a majority of the coaching aspects and they could have won. However, capable assistants weren't lining up to coach under a no-name like Al Golden. Diaz and Kool are both here now because of Richt's name and reputation. Those guys weren't coming here to coach under AL Golden.

These posts are insane. Hands down the dumbest fan base in all of college football. Pat yourself on the back OP. Bully for you!

Go Canes!

Al Golden is the worst coach in school history. The sanctions he agreed to regarding the investigation that he and everyone knew about pales in comparison to what USC and PSU got and they performed better. I mean Kiffin outperformed Al with real sanctions and was fired. Al is a terrible HC. He was our 1st hire with HC experience since Dennis Erickson and was by far the worst since then.

He would be the TE corch of the Detroit lions.

AG was literally the smartest dumbest person to ever acquire the job of HC @ the University of Miami. He fabricated a myth of winning at temple, used the investigation as leverage and got himself and his boys PAID!!! Dorito belongs moping up bukake and glory hole scenes.

Al Golden has never and will never win anything as a HC. The guy is a sham and a manipulating P.O.S!!!

Golden wasn't ready for Miami job. He will be a head coach in college again and maybe he learns from his mistakes.

By college I truly hope you mean NAIA Division II. I strongly doubt that stubborn POS SOB MFer learned any lesson besides exploiting situations and getting paid. I hope that SOB never ever coaches again as a HC
