Idk why some of you are so concerned about Nickel as our starter

That’s actually possible lol. Guys like him who are gamers tend to be like that. The one play we saw against NCSU he had NY deep on a very easy throw because Carr had stacked him. Nickel under threw him by ten yards.

Then why recruit QBs out of high school at all, if all we are ever going to play is experienced QBs? At some point you need to play your recruited QBs, or they will stop coming here. "Why would I go to Miami just to sit behind a transfer?" It's going to be a problem. Every other position sees freshmen seeing the field. Miami? You need to be a 5th year senior to be a QB here. It's not sustainable.
 
The fact that Williams is first off the bench if Carson gets hurt is why people are concerned. That means Nickel has not passed up Williams and there have been a ton of practices since he walked on campus.

Most coaches ( not all) rather take the sure thing and not focus on the guys they brought in. Coaching and development is as bad as ever right now. HS , College and Pro. To develop a kid you have to put in unlimited time. With the limited time you can spend with players now you dumb things down schematically and try to be as efficient as possible with your time. This is why guys like Morris at Oklahoma State are a great investment for a program. There’s very few qb whisperers anymore.

So there is no assistant on staff that works with qbs under dawson like with the Dbs you got Jefferson
 
Nickel also has subpar arm strength. His championship game highlights are littered with underthrown passes, even though a few still ended up as TDs. That's not happening in college. He threw one deep ball in garbage time this year. It was badly underthrown.

To be fair Williams is in his 3rd year and Nickel in his 1st.

Look at the guys they are recruiting. It’s not like they are bringing in highly touted guys

Agree with this 100 percent. Time is limited.

I'll also just add the following: no matter how long a coach spent with me, I'd never be a viable D1 college QB. The same follows for a ton of HS recruits. Even if you poured into them year over year, they might not have the base talent and mental to ever become a good D1 QB.
 
You'd be asking him to come in when he's not really ready and asking him to figure it out on the fly.

Maybe he has that ELITE DEV TRAIT and he jumps up in the offseason, but you're asking a lot from a good prospect, not a great one. You'd be really banking on him being a gamer.

I'd tell CJ Bailey to come on down before we go to Nickel, we've already seen proof of concept with Bailey in this conference and it was pretty good, even if you think his ceiling is lower than our previous two QBs.

And there are rumors that Williams is transferring to a G5 school. I like Williams as a teammate. But it’s very evident he’s not a Miami caliber QB. So pair that with the fact that Nickel hasn’t beat him out and that’s a problem.

I’m pretty close to a couple kids that are D1 recruits, one on enrolled now . The stuff they tell me about their offenses and qb blows my mind . They’ve been a multiple HS’s and at all the schools the qb’s don’t understand coverage or reading a defense . It’s all predetermined garbage. They’re basically a ten year old playing madden lol.

So why did we recruit him if he has a weak arm?
We have all kinds of summer camps with kids from all over the country attending, not to mention UM's backyard has talented QBs. Plus we are willing to pay.
What are we doing?

That point is when they look good and ready to take over behind the scenes. You guys act like Mario doesnt get to see them every day in practice. Why is this concept so hard to understand for some?

You dont earn a starting QB job at Miami just because "at some point we got to play our recruited QBs".....no you earn it when you fckin earn it. Ball out in practice. When you get a shot in mop up duty, dont underthrow your only pass by 20 yards. Etc.

It'd be one of those type of seasons our now spoiled fanbase (especially all of these new bandwagon jumpers) wouldn't tolerate, for sure.

I, personally, would hate to lose a year of ultra productivity of one of the very best players in the nation (Malachi Toney) for a developmental year for our QB.

Our window is RIGHT NOW. Its open. It can be for a while. No need to close it for even a year. We got the money to keep the window open, electric bill be damned.

All this to say that aside from Beck, Mario had a very mediocre pool of QBs on his roster. If this is true, then Mario and his staff did a poor job of handling situation at the most important position in football. Roster mismanagement.
