He spends a full minute talking about how dangerous a running QB is. And if you don't have a running QB, you have to be good in the play-action game (which we're not), and you're passing game has to be more crisp (which ours isn't).



We're also going after more DT QBs in '18.

I don't think we'll completely stop recruiting PP QBs; an elite pocket quarterback will always have a place in college football. But reading the tea leaves, I *think* Richt wants more mobility at the position.


This doesn't absolve Richt of the poor job he's done as OC this year, but right now he has a porous OL, pedestrian RBs, and a QB who's really struggling with trusting what he's seeing. I think Richt is gonna have to do a better job of scheming Kaaya's first read open. And if it's not there, immediately check down, or just throw it away. Also, it's inexcusable for Walton to be starting over Yearby at this point. Maybe Walton's better out of the I (which I'm not even sure is true), but we're a shotgun run team right now, and Yearby is clearly better at finding the hole and getting to the second level.

hes right. but why cant we design it to get the ball out of his hands quick? i mean if you cant even scramble for 1 st down a year you arent trying.

Sometimes we do. We've called RPOs, bootlegs, tunnel screens, RB flares. Sometimes they work. Sometimes Brad won't throw the ball. Sometimes a guy will drop the ball.

It's a mess right now.

On one of those sacks last night, Kayaa was on the ground by the time Walton got through the line and turned around. If you can't keep the QB upright long enough for your RB to run 5 yds upfield for a dump off you've got problems. In the OLs defense, Walton was standing right next to a LB so that play wouldn't have gone anywhere anyway, but still.
 
He also want's an o-line that will take over the game. Right now we don't have either. He will deservedly get the time to get his players in here to fit the system he wants to run. But this is painful to watch right now.

It's quite clear he wants a dual threat QB.

The problem is, he doesn't have one right now (unless he wants to start Evan or Malik), so why is he running his offense like he does?

I said it in the gameday thread last night, but if he's going to keep running this junk, then I would not be opposed at all to having Kaaya's slow *** run it a few times a game on QB designed runs, just to keep.
 
I want a dual-threat HC: one who is able to field elite offense and elite defense at the same time. It's something we havent seen here in 15 years.

Sounds to me like he took the blame for not getting Kaaya ready to execute.

Which, without throwing his QB under the bus, indicates he has a firm grasp on this issues with this team and the performance of the O.

It's also clear what he's trying to do with the offense ... But having the combo of bad OL play AND an immobile QB are making it difficult.

As he indicated ... Teams can play single high and outnumber us in the box, or play 2-high and feel confident they can still defend us because of our OL and the lack of a run threat from the QB.

If we had a better OL, we could run better against 2-high, which would force teams to be more vanilla with their single high coverages. But because we can't, Kaaya is getting fooled on some coverages, which is causing him to hold the ball.

And Kaaya is who he is, so arguing about an athletic QB is pointless, IMO.
 
like he did at UGA. I can't remember a dual threat QB under Richt since Ward at FSU. I may have missed 1 at UGA, but most of his QB's have been pocket QB's.
