I think its safe to say that we will finally stick with our QB room next year

Yeah I personally don’t see either Dereon or Nickel starting here unless injuries happen. Portal just seems like the way forward right now.

No one knows that. We don’t know what year 3 Nickel will look like. Coleman might add some good weight and play well all year in practice. We also have no idea what QBs will even be able to get.

It’s just too soon to even think anything definitive about next year. At some point we have to develop a QB.

I agree I’m just speculating nothing is set in stone. Regarding developing a QB, I personally think Neimann Lawerence is that guy.

Another hot take from the poster who said LOL

JoJo will be the starter and a star
Messidor shouldn't be starting

IMO Nickel will start next year. He looked really good yesterday.
So I think based on how Mario over communicates and is upfront on expectations benefits us over most. He’s completely transparent on earning playing time and process.

And no, I don’t have first hand knowledge of his talks with kids, but if he wasn’t doing this, then information would trickle out about this.

Also kids and parents see it everywhere that competition is guaranteed. I mean look at Lane and how many QBs he takes every cycle.

I created a similar thread last week and I can't recall the poster, but he made a really good point is that if you have a can't miss, proven production QB in the portal who wants to be at Miami, you bring him in, regardless of who's on your roster. Right now though it's just wayyyy to early to talk about '27 when '26 hasn't began yet.

I get it. I don’t mind the portal. If you know you’re getting a quality starter and you have even a hint of a question at the QB position take the portal guy.

not sure why most of you are against this and wouldn't want him starting his sophomore year
I would love him to start his Sophomore year...if he wins the job. And not win it by default...make himself undeniable. That is the big takeaway from last year...everything has to be earned.

If Coleman is elite, it won’t take long for it show in whatever time he’s given, during practice, game time, film room and etc.

Look at Toni, coming in he was bury in the depth chart, but slowly, his elite talents elevated and you couldn’t keep him off the field.

If that happens with Coleman, wonderful. If not, nothing wrong with going back into the portal.

This conversation is always filled with overthinking.

Either one of the qbs will prove in practice or games that they are worthy to be starting next year, or we will go portal again.

Simple as that. It wont be decided because the coaches are worried about their QB recruiting in the future if they dont force a young recruited qb to start.

You know what hurts recruiting as a whole (not just qbs) the most? Losing.

This. The reason we have had three portal QBs in a row is because the guys we already had weren’t good. Or at the very least, weren’t ready to start. By the end of the year Shannon Dawson will know what he has in house and whether or not to pursue another transfer.

If you’re truly interested in competition and the best player winning the job, you should have no issue with transfer quarterbacks. There’s no reason to handicap your own team by sticking with a guy you recruited even though he’s not good.

meaning Coleman will be starting
So many sauces

I now have a hard time seeing us rolling out anyone without meaningful/significant game experience. I’m not sure the backup gets enough reps in spring practice and during the season for the staff to go all in.
