I think I see Richt's dilemma

Only when your starter is complete crap.
I am holding out hope that we see all 3 backups this weekend so we can make up our own minds. No more coach talk, no more lessons for missing class or partying... let's get them on the field and see what we have. Jaren is the flavor of the month, but I need to see all 3 and judge for myself.

In the law office where I work, my boss is a UGA alum. The associate to my right is a Pitt alum, and the associate to my left is a LSU alum. Mork Rick is killing me.

Since when did Miami need a Saban or Meyer? No coach has ever had pedigree before coming here. So are you guys admitting that the state of Miami doesnt exist anymore?

When did Miami ever need a great coach? a good coach? sure. a great? nah.

Bringing up Richts past and all that 10 win **** at Georgia shouldnt mean **** cuz Miami/Florida boys built different right?
or are those days gone? cuz you cant have both

If I remember correctly, Richt was not sold on Rosier as the answer after Kayaa left. It always felt as if he begrudgingly accepted the fact last season that Rosier was the least bad option. Richt was also pretty clear after last season’s 3 game swoon that the QB position was up for grabs. He said the same going into spring and summer camps. I think (just my opinion...no inside info at all) Richt was really hoping that year 2 in the system was the time when one of the younger QBs would finally surpass Rosier. For whatever reason, off field issues, lack of adequate coaching/development, recruiting hype not translating into reality, or some combo of those reasons, it just hasn’t happened. He probably felt that Rosier’s game day experience was worth the risk in the high profile opener. We all saw how that risk played out.

I’m hoping, like several others have mentioned on various threads, that the upcoming stretch of easier games allows Richt the ability to tighten the leash on Rosier, give Perry and Weldon meaningful snaps in live situations, and make a more informed decision on who will be the starting QB when we get to the meat of the season.

miami has hired great coaches before they became great, there next hire has to be a guy that no one knows is great but becomes great and the signs r always there to suspect who will be great. Sometimes its hard to see......I think Butch is great for UM. Miami always won on talent so they have to find a guy that can bring in the 5 stars at every position and protect sfla. until that I dont believe we will win big (championships)

We just saw what a 5 star looks like on Sunday and he was on defense and played up to that billing.

We know Rosier is awful. Perry and Weldon may be adequate. However, Williams is his hand picked heir apparent. If he were to give substantial playing time to Jarren, and he proves to be equal or better than the other two backups, he runs the risk of both of them jumping ship.

That would be a nightmare scenario considering we have no plans to recruit a QB in the 2019 class. Therefore he will give him limited playing time in mop up without giving up a red shirt. This still keeps the job up for grabs next season. He should be elevating both Perry and Weldon now with decent reps to keep them in the fold for next season. Lord knows we will need the depth.
You may be right but how do we know if Perry and Weldon arre no better than Malweak in a live game?

He can't afford to lose the players, alums and fans. If those guys leave, then they leave. He must act now and it must be a discernible path forward for the future of the program.
This right here ... we are Miami we play for now if they transfer they transfer

What is this goofy “hand-picked” nonsense with Williams? He recruited and signed Perry and Weldon too. And he didn’t start recruiting Williams until very late in the process after the Pickowski experience imploded.

Shelve the goofy fan-isms like “hand-picked.” This ain’t no apple orchard. He hand-picked all of them except for the guy he keeps playing.

^ Ding Ding Ding

And btw He created his own dilemma. He chose not to go after Will Grier and Shea Patterson. He chose not to go after Joe Burrow. He even chose not to go after Wilton Speight or Keller Chryst. All would’ve been better options than Malweak and allowed him to have all three be here to battle next year...if that’s even the case.

It's a false premise that fans have forced themselves to imagine because they simply refuse to hold Richt accountable for the mistake of sticking with Rosier come **** or high water & not getting any of the younger guys enough credible reps in Spring/Fall camp.

These dudes are in for a rude awakening when 2019 comes around & Jarren is still taking 2nd/3rd team reps in the Spring.

Jarren will be a Redshirt Freshman next year, our fans are delusional in thinking that Richt wants to hand over his supposed advanced calculus Offense to a Red Frosh. If that was the case he wouldn't be betting the house on a 5th year Senior who was a Foldenite recruit in the 1st place.

The QB comp next year will come down to, who has the viability to stick around & not transfer while splitting reps until late into Fall camp.

I love Jarren's talent & think he can be a great QB, but Richt ain't handing over sh*t to none of'em, it will be a long drawn process that will have a result that most don't expect.

I don’t give a fck about next year. We still have a full season left to play, but I don’t get this sudden “Jarren or die” obsession on here. Why? Because a few guys who have struggled evaluating QBs here have told us Williams is the best.

I’m good with some baby steps. Get the 2nd team QB in there. If he fails, then next up. I don’t expect to skip immediately to the 4th team QB. Go down the list till you find a guy who can at least make some routine throws. And if you can’t find one out of the 3 you signed then do the honorable thing and resign.

This guy Rick needs to quit with his practice obsession and thinking his ****** system invented football.

even if CMR waits until August 24, 2019 to name Williams the starter Perry and Weldon most likely will immediately transfer out, leaving no one behind him in 2019. So do it now!!

However, recruit a QB with potential this year (we know we are in the running for several top QBs for 2020, including his nephew), I understand the top ranked national QBs are committed, so recruit a good athletic QB plus get a transfer or JUCO (so a total of 2) now.

Play the 3 freshman with the goal of naming a new starter by the North Carolina game, time to make the switch!

@UknowWhat

Are there any players who might... I don’t know... think Rosier isn’t the best qb on the roster at the moment?

This. It's really not that complicated. And as terdferguson mentioned earlier, if Richt is worried about Weldon or Perry transferring then he should be recruiting a QB this year (which he should be doing regardless, but that's for another thread).
