I think #6 is about right for us...

the biggest threat in imho is does a team that loses the ACC champtionship that ends up with two losses, getting bumped by a 3 loss team from the BIG10 or SEC. Below is the final AP poll for the last 5 years showing that there are 3 and 4 loss teams in the top 12 View attachment 307169
Presents an interesting scenario , for sure. The CFP rankings committee has set themselves up to rank CFP teams however they want. They've clearly said their ranking may not match up with the national rankings.... I belive the phrase they use is "best teams" vs "most deserving teams"

As of right now how our defense is playing. only team ahead of us that i see we could beat is penn state .
Miami could beat any of those teams IMO because the big matchups often turn into offenses trading scores and Miami can keep up in a shootout.

What Miami can't do right now is beat those other top teams at holding bad offenses to low point totals because the Canes will fall asleep or freelance and let some fat back get an easy TD.

There are no dominant defenses this year. OSU looked like Swiss cheese on several series against Oregon. Likewise, Oregon defense looked very pedestrian on final drive and were bailed out by a mistake by a freshman WR. Georgia defense does not look good at all.

Is this actually Sabans account?

whether we had a 4 team playoff or a 12 team playoff, I think we are in the same situation. We have to run the table and win the ACC championship. If we lose one conference game, there is a distinct possibility that Clemson and SMU both finish undefeated and would end up playing in the ACC championship. The winner and loser likely both get in. Can’t count on the playoff committee taking 3 ACC teams. And for those who say a 1 loss Miami team that doesn’t play in the ACC championship game would still get a playoff spot, remember that FSU fans believed an undefeated ACC champion was guaranteed to get into playoffs last year. If we lose a game we probably slide to 14 (people already skeptical about UM) and I think we miss the playoffs, especially if we don’t play in the ACC championship (and win).

Don't forget Pitt. Atleast Pitt has to play both SMU and Clemson. After victories it goes to common opponents and SMU just beat UL. We can't lose this game. I have just started worrying about rankings this season because I think at this moment, we can't beat Clemson. I am praying for Guidry to change that by the end of the season. If we don't win the ACC, we better be ranked as high as possible to make the playoff.

If we win out and lose to Clemson in the ACC championship game (btw I think we will play SMU in the ACC championship as I believe Clemson will lose to Pitt or Louisville), we still get into the playoffs. If we lose a game in the regular season and then lose in the ACC championship, we are out.

Thoughts on Rankings if Georgia wins a close one at Texas? This is just a scenario that may not happen, but this outcome I see them keeping Texas in the Top 5 and may bump Bama.
