I stop reading

Him trying to catch the NC State WR is still hilarious. All players, bad and good, make mistakes though.

You do know there's more to drafting a player besides stats right? FSU was a clusterfu*k and didn't know how to use James let alone anyone on their team. He played near the LOS for the most part as a hybrid LB/SS so his INT numbers aren't going to be up like Jaquan who played more in a a safety/nickel CB role. I noticed you conveniently left off the fact that he only played two games in his sophomore season. Jaquan also has 160 tackles total to James' 186 so you're wrong there as well.

None of those players, including Jaquan, can do what James does which is why they are not getting talked about. He has the athletic ability to play any role in the secondary and LB if needed.

Wrong. He was asked to play near the line of scrimmage because when he came back from injury he looked lost in space and coverage. FSU was a mess yes but they gave Derwin James every opportunity, built that D around him and he still struggled to make an impact.

That's partly true. For the first half of the year he looked lost in space. Once he was more comfortable, around the Syracuse game, they transitioned him back to S. Their defense wasn't built around him

He's going to have to play in a system that allows him to do what he does well (play near the line, support the run, blitz) and won't ask him to do what he can't (play in space, man coverage). He wowed a lot of people with his versatility as a freshman, then got hurt, then looked very average after injury. He's more of a "rover" than a safety and appears to be limited athletically. He counters that with great instincts and willingness to deliver hits. There's been NFL safeties with similar skill sets who've had good careers but it's very system dependent. If you try to line him up deep and make him cover over the top, he's going to get beat a lot. He might be better suited as a "tweener" linebacker that a lot of teams are going to in passing situations but even then, you don't use a first round pick on that type of player.

Yes, I never really worried much about him when Miami played FSU. Him leaving early isn't a big deal for me either.

Clowney was really good before he took his jr year off though. He was maybe the best player his sophomore year.

Derwin is a guy who would not even be a top 2 round pick if it wasnt for his recruiting ranking and the hype that generated for him. He’s never made plays

I won't say he never made plays, he was starting to come on as a Freshmans but he definitely disappeared after the meniscus injury, along with the rest of the Noles.

I agree he is a major reach though where they have him evaluated.

But, the NFL will talk themselves into anything if they want to.

The guy made every tackle for that team for two full seasons and is 100000x the athlete Jaquan is.

You jumped the shark, you should have come in first with the tackle piece then followed up later with the comparison part. C-, good job, good effort!

As a Bucs fan seeking help for recovery I would like to remind you that we are again picking in the top 10. There has also been a lot of noise about how they have made it obvious he is the top of their board. Similar to how it was with Carnell Williams and VH3. If I was a betting person I would put the life savings on them taking him no matter what else is available.

I am sure there is a punter that could way them, but they can still trade back up into the first for that.

I’m praying the bucs don’t take that scrub

I chose to follow the Redskins because of Sean Taylor. Have stayed loyal to them even after his passing. But have realllyyyyyyy wanted a reason to switch. Drafting Derwin James would give me my out.

I'll become an NFL Fan Free Agent and patiently wait for Gurvan Hall to be drafted.

This. l think any top 10 talk is in hopes that he reverts back to his freshman season. That stiffness that is very evident now wasn't there then. Injury definitely took a toll on him. I think he has a lot of upside and his best football is ahead of him. Our fans are clueless when it comes draft evaluations lol.

Don't know if you watch the Dolphins but he reminds me of a more athletic Reshad Jones.

lol what part of his freshman season equaled a top 10 player?? Dude is the most overrated player in history.. Jamal Carter had better instincts, not knocking JC but that was a big criticism of his on this board but Derwins is much worse.

He is without a doubt the most overrated player I've ever seen

that nc state WR shook him like he was still in middle school and then did a front flip for all the fsu babes

that's how intimidating he is..

he's terrible

Just say you don't know bruh. It's cool. I'm not going to say anything bad about Carter since I respect his grind. Just know that comment is farthest from the truth.

All signs point to the Bucs picking him unless Quenton Nelson is on the board.

PFF graded him very highly even though he's invisible most of the time. All the scouts seem to love him particularly for his intangibles like leadership and dedication to film watching. Tough to evaluate safeties without all-22 coaches film but I watch his cut-ups and he doesn't make many plays. The elite testing #s translate in pads but his instincts/reaction time are subpar at best and he takes bad angles half the time. I wouldn't trust him to make open-field tackles in space consistently either.

I view him as a box safety with a lot of upside and versatility if he actually learns the game. He wouldn't be the first FSU DB to improve drastically in the pros (Ramsey, Rhodes, Joyner, etc.). He has the physical tools to be a press corner even.

I want Nelson or trade down for Isaiah Wynn and whomever but James wouldn't be close the worst recent Bucs pick so whatever. At least they passed on Cook last year.
