every Mock draft when I see Derwin James in the top 10.

I've never seen a more over hyped prospect. He had a few good reps as a freshman. Some of the scouting reports make me wonder if any of these experts have actually watched his tape.

If the rival fan base of the player you're drafting isnt celebrating/thankful when a kid is leaving early. You should question what type of impact the kid really had.

I won't even bother talking about the Sean Taylor comparisons, Derwin isn't even a Kenny Phillips to me.

I am not clear, you stop reading because his hype is annoying you, or you think that invalidates someone's projections?

He has to have the worst stats ever of a 1st round safety. I don't get it either. Great athlete, decent player, but he's just not that impactful.

Probably more like 15-25. That would be sensible. Every time James is seemingly trending way upward the consensus flattens out again and he is pushed back toward middle or later first round.

Very good player but not as agile as ideal for an elite safety. Per usual, James Cobern had the best summary of Derwin James in his recent analytics video on the top defensive back prospects. Cobern looked at the relevant test score numbers and said that James is not as flexible as the top recent guys like Eric Berry or Jalen Ramsey. That is exactly correct, IMO. James is somewhat tight wound and stiff, although the knocks on him here are laughable. Very good player.

To go way back, James reminds me somewhat of Dennis Smith, who was the safety sidekick to Ronnie Lott at USC. Smith went 15th to Denver and had an excellent career, but he simply wasn't the same caliber as the Hall of Fame safeties who went very early in that same draft -- Lott and Kenny Easley.

Combination of the two. More so because it invalidates the persons effort to evaluate talent (imo). It's lazy to just regurgitate the hype you heard about him as a 5 star prospect, he's got no actual college film to back it up.

I just checked out James Coberns mock so thanks for sharing his name. He's got Derwin going 26th overall, I'd say that's the range he should go, but I don't even think he has the tape to justify that. But maybe you're right it's just my bias/hatred of Seminole players. But when Delvin Cook left for the draft I was very happy, I think Miami fans were more aware of his skills than anyone else.

**** I was hoping to grab him in my fantasy draft, I couldn't handle 10 more years of him tormenting me.

This. l think any top 10 talk is in hopes that he reverts back to his freshman season. That stiffness that is very evident now wasn't there then. Injury definitely took a toll on him. I think he has a lot of upside and his best football is ahead of him. Our fans are clueless when it comes draft evaluations lol.

Don't know if you watch the Dolphins but he reminds me of a more athletic Reshad Jones.

Was just thinking this on the drive home. For all the physical talent he has he sure didn’t make a lot of plays. I forgot he existed the past few times we played FSU.

The NFL is going to eat him alive and he’s going to get the bust label very quickly if he goes top 15.

They're banking on him being J. Clowney, super athletic and talented but just didn't give a Shiite in college

Derwin wasn’t top safety in his own state. Jaquan had more interceptions this year than James has had in his career and even had more tackles. There are other ACC safeties that put up better numbers too and none of them are being talked about so highly. Dude has been hyped on potential since day one but he’s not close to being a game changer that a top ten pick should be. He’s also still trying to catch that NC state WR

Honestly I think where he's mocked is fine. It was worse at the beginning of the season when people where talking about top 3 with a chance to go 1 lol

Clowney was really good before he took his jr year off though. He was maybe the best player his sophomore year.

Derwin is a guy who would not even be a top 2 round pick if it wasnt for his recruiting ranking and the hype that generated for him. He’s never made plays

Yeah he’s deff not top 10 material.. #4 JJ is a better football player and he won’t even get half the hype that James has which isn’t fair at all.. but with the NFL; most teams have elite coaches so they’ll draft a guy based off measureables with the hopes that they’ll groom them into a top player

Him trying to catch the NC State WR is still hilarious. All players, bad and good, make mistakes though.

You do know there's more to drafting a player besides stats right? FSU was a clusterfu*k and didn't know how to use James let alone anyone on their team. He played near the LOS for the most part as a hybrid LB/SS so his INT numbers aren't going to be up like Jaquan who played more in a a safety/nickel CB role. I noticed you conveniently left off the fact that he only played two games in his sophomore season. Jaquan also has 160 tackles total to James' 186 so you're wrong there as well.

None of those players, including Jaquan, can do what James does which is why they are not getting talked about. He has the athletic ability to play any role in the secondary and LB if needed.

Clueless eh, maybe It's you thats clueless...

I'll bet you Derwin James doesn't finish his career with the level of success Reshad Jones does.
