I see reasons for hope

It’s play calling , you have far smaller windows in the redzone and the play caller becomes more valuable. Some of the bs on here being said about TVD is just that…bs. Your obsession with TVD is weird and been going on for a month. Either you’re a troll or have some agenda.
I can grant you part of it is play calling. However, if you think this guy sees the field, goes from one read to the next, adjusts and finds open guy, your blind as a bat. If first read isn’t wide open, the play is over 99% of time
As for obsession….lol…I see it the other way where some think this guy is first pick in draft…THAT is obsession.
I’m being a realist. I’m calling it the way it is. If this guy played at duke would you or anyone else think twice about him?
He has stunk this year and cost miami multiple games, ****, we are lucky VT sucks total *** or we would have lost again.
Good QBs convert third and fourth down and RZ
It’s not all Gattis, this isn’t madden. He has to play better find the open guy and be accurate, he doesn’t do it!
THAT is reality
The 350-400 yards are empty calories because they don’t rest in anything!

I shared this w/ one of my boys in a PM, but I guess I’ll put it here, too:

When Richt took over Miami in 2016, Miami was 126th on penalties in 2015. That 2016 team finished 112th in penalties. The 2017 squad finished 43rd. That’s right my friends, when Richt inherited the 2nd most undisciplined team in FBS, they still remained relatively undisciplined in yr 1.

Despite Richt installing a level of discipline, as SOON as Diaz took over, we finished 103rd, 121st & 92nd in penalties the last 3 seasons. Yep; not only do we have some holes on the talent side, but we have some serious discipline issues. Not a coincidence, folks.
We also have guys who fold to a stiff breeze.

I DO like TVD, but he does lock on to one guy, I've said this before, and he needs to throw the ball away more, i saw one throw away today, instead of forcing it or taking a sack. Hopefully, he spends his time this offseason with a real qb coach, not rosier.

Still looks like a very bad team. They were up 20 early in the 4th and won 20-14 to one of the worst teams in the country. Offense isn’t very good and Young **** sure ain’t no #1 receiver. 20 points against VT is bad

Obviously, the penalties and the OL are certainly areas for concern, but that's all fixable stuff. The biggest thing is that I see improvements in all three phases.

I believe MC will get our guys to be more disciplined and we'll go back to having fewer penalties, but I do see things improving.

Some positives:
  • We finally have a stud #1 WR in Young. They need to feed the ball to that young man.
  • TVD is finally back and seems to have come to a peace with this new system. He looks like last year's TVD.
  • Mallory is finally playing the way we thought he would. Hopefully the injury won't keep him out of the Duke game.
  • Don't know why it took this long, but the coaches are finally putting athletes in to return the ball, especially on punts. Having Smith back to return punts is waaaaay overdue and I wouldn't be surprised if we see him take one or two back this year. We have to put difference makers in as many positions to make a difference as possible.
  • Once we get some guys back on the OL, we might be a dangerous team.
  • The coaching on the DL is really starting to show. That DL is getting pressure and sacks. More INT's will come with their pressure.
  • After the MTSU debacle, it looks like Steele has the D playing better overall.
  • If we continue to show improvement through the year and we get some kids back from injury, we could become that team that no top team wants to play (cough-Clemson-cough).
Show improvement every week and the majority of us will hang with Coach MC.
Don't really care about the old tvd. If you can run the football we will be 7-5 again

BUT! 150 play scrimmages!

This is a disease that has its roots far beyond any of this. Stems from allowing kids to strong arm Paul Dee into hiring ol’ loveable Larry.

Ofcourse those kids played with passion and pride. The next gen & successive gens had less and less passion & pride.

Eventually we couldn’t sniff relevance as years went on.

We All Know this sad Fackin Story, but to ignore it & shovel ****e on people giving their lives to remedy this borderline terminal infection is venturing towards the land of the retarded + delusional.

Then again if you could describe in 2 words a vast majority of our fan base in 2022 ^

Here’s my thing: I keep seeing people in here and on social media continue to say, “This offense doesn’t work, it’s too conservative, antiquated, etc., etc.” Tell that to Michigan and Georgia. Michigan totally took Penn State’s manhood today while rushing for 400+yards and dominating the line of scrimmage. This type of offense can absolutely work if you have the right personnel and everyone buys in.

Big drops by VT definitely helped
I think that we got little out of this game besides another win to possibly makes us eligible for the garbage bowl with 6 Ws. Also good to see a comfort with a new outlet in Young. Can’t wait to get guys back but I don’t think that this will benefit us tremendously with the exception of X which is also going to take time to pick up on the timing of oases/catches.

However the problems still remain.
-OLine has no push upfront leading us to use Jacurri Brown as a run only QB during short yardage situations. Don’t think return of anyone not named Nelson will make a difference.
-Constantly short of the line to gain on 3rd down (why are receivers not on the line or just beyond it by a yard or two)?
-Defense is confused, especially in the secondary. 2-3 dropped balls change the outcome of that game. We are lucky that VTechis sooo incompetent that we came out with the W.
-Inability to come away with 6 in the red zone.
-Terrible play calling. It’s very predictable. I get that we don’t have a room full of athletes but I am massively underwhelmed by a guy that won the Broyles award LAST year.

No need to point out the undisciplined crazy penalty game. Couch is a fool!

I have posted before that we need to figure out how to win games before this turnaround can begin. Yesterday started out that way and then took a direction that is exact opposite than we need. We managed (as a team) to give the other team nearly every opportunity to win. We were the far better team but we lucked out and came away with a W. There is no pride in that effort (especially the second half). I am hoping to see progress and will look for the changes against Duke. But looking at our schedule, I am concerned with where we are pulling 3 wins from to become bowl eligible if we played like we did in the 2nd half at any point in any upcoming game.

I think you are dreaming of unicorns and rainbows.
We will be lucky to split remaining games
We just scored 20 against ****** tech
After 24 last week against horrendous UNC defense
We don’t have a good enough QB that can carry team and make everything easy and we sure as **** don’t have enough weapons inngeneral
Everything is HARD, nothing comes easy

That’s a tough way to win week in week out imo
every game will be close, we will win some , lose some.... need some Olineman to get healthy, would like to see Chaney period

All Facts

But

Power Run Heavy relies on having the right personnel ( as you mentioned / which we do not have currently nor historically )

&

The Right Mentality ( which we sure as ****e do not nor potentially ever have again. )

If ( Sweet Baby Jesu Please make it happen ) we can find a coordinator who can figure out how to utilize / maximize our abundance of undersized, speedy, competitive local kids into a well oiled machine we’ll be relevant faster than some think.

Pepper in some Northeastern, Texas, Cali studs & we’ll be banging with the bigs in no time. imo

So far we’ve been trying to fit a square peg into a round vagine for far to long.

Give me all the Elijah Moore’s, Tutu’s, & Teddy Bridgewater’s

U don’t have to high point the ball as much if you are 4 yds past the defenders.

Disagree on Mallory. I still feel like he’s going to fumble or hurt himself every time he has the ball

Also I think VT made our defense look better than it is with crap play calling and execution

But other than those two points I’m also slightly encouraged, I just want to see some improvement

This defense is currently getting "The Schedule Effect" that Manny got for a bit here.

SP+ Offense (after week 6, not 7) from the schedule so far:
So Miss 105th
Texas A&M 63rd
MTSU 98th
UNC 13th
VT 118th

Duke 69th
UVA 89th
FSU 33rd
GT 90th
Clemson 24th
Pitt 23rd

There are 65 P5 teams? Miami will face 4 O's all year in the top 50 of SP+. Wait to see how the defense does last 5 vs first 5. People raved about Manny's early defenses that were all against bottom 1/3 O's, too. See the result when ACC offense improved, or Penn St vs Michigan
