I may regret this, but...

It's not a bad hire.

Its the fact that they didn't even bother contacting anyone else that's the issue.
Agreed. What would a week to feel out who's really interested in the vacancy and give yourself additional options hurt? Nothing against Diaz, who earned a sit-down, and could turn out to be a homerun hire.

It is a bad hire cause they didnt bother contacting anyone. There are several more qualified(and interested in the job not pipe dream) candidates.

Only at Miami do they promote a OC/DC that was overrated and no HC experience for a 7-6 team

300+ yards rushing and torched by passes looked god awful to me.
Don’t show me one game as your evidence. That’s like showing me Richts O vs App state in 2016 as proof that Richts a bang up OC.

I’m not sure how much more that D could’ve done this year considering the other 2 sides of the ball. But beyond that, Diaz has continuously retooled his scheme and made it better.. not just between seasons but also between halves.

I get wanting an experienced HC, but I just have a hard time seeing his body of work at UM and not being good with it.

I know it's the hurt speaking right now, but unless he has a time machine, he can't jump forward and prove all of this. He has, however, already performed as our DC for 3 years, so his talk also has some walk to it.

The alternative is just stop following the team. You DO want them to succeed under Manny, right? You are going to be rooting for them, right? To root for them is not some betrayal of Butch or whoever else you wanted in there. Manny is the guy now and let's get behind him with eyes wide open. When he does something smart, let's praise him. If he starts ******** up, I'm sure you'll be the 1st to call him out, which is fine.

It's a new day and let's hope for the best.

I couldn’t agree more. I have a good feeling about Manny. I think he makes a good OC hire. I also want to hear he’s spending time over there too bringing the aggression out of the Offense.

Don’t show me one game as your evidence.
LSU - blow out torched D
FSU - 3 quarters - torched D
BC - torched D
Duke, GT - D torched.
We padded our stats by playing TERRIBLE teams with no O, then folded on D like a cheap suit when facing any decent team. We knew Wis would run right at us and they did. They made Manny their btch.
You homers are blinded from 16yrs of suck, you have no clue what UM greatness, much less average looks like

That's it! Have a good cry and let it all out!!! You poor thing. It's gonna be just fine. Maybe take a zany or something.
But, but, but, let’s just give him a chance! I won’t decent until another 3 years goes down the tubes. Then it’s ok.

Because when they gave the ball back to the offense they couldn't take their helmets off before having to go back on the field.
Are you people serious?
Terrible fandom
Pathetic loser loving slupers embrace mediocrity and losing. It suits them.

This hire is indicative of why this program wallows in mediocrity. I wish Manny well and will be rooting for him. However, this entire athletic program is run like a disorganized mom and pop operation with the AD being merely a figurehead subject to the whims of the millionaires on the BOT and their political cronies.

If Diaz hires a competent, proven OC, then we’re going to be regularly winning the coastal division. Idk about Acc championships and all that- we’re far behind Dabo and Clemson in a number of areas and some of them are structural.

But, it would be the first time we’ve had a competent offensive and defensive coordinator in I don’t know how long. My hope for Richt was that he’d come in, stabilize the program, regularly beat teams with less talent, and sometimes compete with the more talented teams. If we have two coordinators that nearly maximize our talent, we’re gonna start beating the Virginia’s and Georgia Tech’s regularly.

I'm in. Let's roll with Diaz with full-throated support until such a time comes that we shouldn't. At least, that's my position.

Look, despite these coaching positions getting paid king's ransoms, the reality is - at UM, it shouldn't be this hard. It shouldn't.

It's like the Lord of the Rings ring where people get the ring and then all logic goes out the window.

Manny is talking about doing the things for the whole team that he's already doing on D: maximize the local speed and aggression, constantly be learning and improving, hold everyone accountable. These aren't revolutionary concepts, but for the last almost 2 decades, this hasn't been followed.

For the record, like last time, I still wanted Butch. However, unlike when we hired Richt and I was like, "Oh...OK...I guess...let's focus on the positives and forget all the reasons why I never wanted him to be our HC." I don't feel that way about Manny. Not that anyone cares two ****es about my opinion, but my top 3 were:
1. Butch
2. Babers
3. Leach

It's a HUGE risk by the school!!! But....if he can make good on his promise for the O, keep up the D and apply his overall approach to the entire team, I am hopeful.

Please list these candidates by name.

Babers, Wario(wasnt a fan of his) Leach.......just off top of my head.....at least contact them dont hire the first guy you see. The Richt hire was the same....just lazy

I would have liked Babers but when did he express interest? Three years ago? Mario? Leach? Same names thrown around these boards in the past.

We will never know if Babers was interested cause the clowns hired the first guy that walked into the office....L A Z Y

You listed Babers as an interested candidate. Maybe you intended to say interesting candidate from your perspective (and mine too, BTW).

The Defense was great this year especially when you add the fact that they were on the field **** near 70% of games
Yea, and they were forced to defend a short field way too often because of ST, but that’s a tough concept to grasp for the dim witted.

I get peoples disappointment and anger. I really do.

Manny wasn't my top preference or even in my top 3 but I like the hire.

It's the ultimate boom or bust hire.

I think he'll do well here. He's a smart guy.

That's evident by the transformation our defense has had since he took over.

Now let's see if he has what it takes to run a whole program. I think he does.
