I love what I am seeing, but...

we are down 3 CBs so naturally we should be a little concerned, but its not anything we cant overcome, and as long as those guys are healthy for when it matters we will be alright
 
this is exactly how I feel after 2 games. Which guys are gonna step up and fill that nasty void. Bain, Mes, Scott and Thomas were the dudes last year.
 
It’s hard to take away anything from these two games given the level of competition. What will be most interesting/telling to see as we get into better competition is who on the D is going to bring the edge/aggressiveness that we had with 0, 3, 4 and 8 last season. Blount plays with that edge but will be important for some tone setters to emerge on the defense.

I have full faith there will be 0 shootouts this year. in 2024 the offense had to score at least 40 to win. no way thats the case this year

Now you're moving the goal posts!...every team has that issue til they play a team with draftable players!... Guess what that said team has to play us with our draftable players as well!...anybody, anywhere, anytime! Kinda like last year's playoffs..

We are not creating as many negative plays and we have no turnovers through 2 games. These are causes for concern. But I also think much of that is because we have played teams that are incredibly conservative on offense in an effort to take away any negative plays. Which is a strategy to avoid disaster but it also limits success.

I don’t think we will know what we have on defense until after the Wake game, at the earliest, and maybe not even then.

I don’t know your age but there was a time when college basketball did not have a shot clock. And inferior teams would basically hold the ball for a minute or more at a time to reduce possessions. And they made safe passes to limit opposing teams steals. And they strategy worked to reduce the overall score, but it rarely allowed the inferior teams to win (the exceptions being NCSU over Houston and Villanova over Georgetown).

What was the longest pass FAMU attempted last night? 15 yards? Maybe. The QB got rid of the ball typically under 2 seconds. That won’t result in sacks or TO’s but we likely win every time a team plays that conservative against us because they aren’t going to have 10 successful plays resulting in a score.

Wake Purdue tomorrow will give a read on how WF looks against an average ish team. WF favored by 3 away.

We expected a drop off and it may take time to gel...the one thing I remember from the first game last season it how it seemed like Canes were swarming on every play. So far, 3 sacks and 0 turnovers with what feels like way too many plays where opposing WRs are wide open. I trust the coaching staff, but has this crossed your mind? Just a question, not a criticism.

It's not like offenses have been working the 5-7 step drop game.
Everything has been quick.

I wasn't thrilled with Wilson against Stanford and then I went back and watched. He had some nice pass rush reps. Showed more power than I thought he had to.
He'll get there IMO.
 
in meaningful minutes without any other major injuries, I don't see anyone scoring more than 28 on this D... and I don't see a game where we aren't scoring at least 31 with this O.... and I'm giving you my worse case scenario....

So if that’s true we’ll be happy campers. My guess is it can’t ever be that easy.
