I liked that benching

If Richt was to make that move, do it in the 3rd quarter. Otherwise, you have to go with the hand that got you this far. What it does say though is Richt is not going to be afraid to upgrade the position if Perry or another is ready next year regardless of how far Rosier takes us this season.

Rosier needed to stand on the sideline and observe for a series. Don't try and make it out to be some horrible coaching move. The QB has to hit the open guy and he was given tons of chances to do it on all kinds of different routes.

Richt didn't send in Shirreffs because he thought Shirreffs was about to light it up. He sent him in because Rosier needed to wake up.

Come on dan, you're better than that. Most of this is about timing. The problem that I have (I believe most of us have) is WHEN he did it. 10 minutes left, down by 10, defense just got a stop and ball around the 50. This is the time to bring in Sherriffs for the predictable 3 and out? If you're thinking about doing this, do it when you come out of the locker room in the 3rd quarter. Any time but this. It basically threw up the white flag for the rest of the game. If not for a series of ridiculously lucky plays, they blow us out by 17 points. That situation is when you stick with the guy who brought you there and trust that he will figure it out. You just cannot bring in Sherriffs at that point under any circumstance.
The difference between a calculated move that is well prepared for and a knee jerk reaction. Richt had knee jerk reaction and just couldn't help himself.

Corch move

Yup. Retardedness at its finest.

Moved accomplished absolutely nothing positive, was horribly timed, and gave away a precious drive when we were only down by 10 with the ball near midfield and MORE THAN 10 minutes left in the game.

It's easily one of the top 3 worst and most incompetent in game decisions I've ever seen in a football game....and we were all privy to that timeout called by Randy Shannon on the incompletion during the 2 minute drill of the bowl game against Cal several years back.

Let's all pray that Manny doesn't leave this offseason because if we're being honest his unit is the only reason Richt doesn't have more heat on him today due to the goodwill that winning streak bought him.

And spare me with the "Rosier was playing like crap " garbage that many of the idiot posters on this site are now spewing. I've watched enough football to know that all it takes is ONE DRIVE to turn a close game around no matter how bad you play for the other 3 and a half quarters. It's not as if that **** is uncommon in the game of football. Richt doing what he did, WHEN he did was the definition of stupidity.

Been a Cane for 40 years. As much as I hate to admit it, we are not in the same league as Clemson, Alabama, Oklahoma. Let's face reality, we are not really a top 4 team. Reason- We have been consistently inconsistent all year. Also remember that MR averaged almost 2 loses/year at GA. It is what it is.

so its richts fault his qb cant hit wide open receivers? we win going away if even one of those passes were on target?
Why you only have to focus on the QB? Rosier was bad today. What about special teams play? OL performance? The bad running game?

Because they are morons. The majority of this board knows jack **** about the game of football. Many of us were chastised for questioning the great Al Golden at the beginning of his tenure and we know how that turned out.

What Richt did today was absolutely pathetic, incompetent, and inexcuseable. He needs to hold HIMSELF accountable for that ****-for-brain moment he exhibited in the most crucial of moments.

100% correct.

Problem was that Richt waited too long to yank him. Should have been done halfway through the 3rd when it was clear Malik didn't have it.

I have to think that there’s another way to spark rosier - rollouts, boots with a short pass, more screens (to rb, te, etc), etc. For whatever reason, there was a lack of creativity in this rehaes

Richt waited until it was obvious that Rosier had no ability to move the offense. He missed a wide open bubble screen to Berrios. THAT is when Richt pulled him.

Good move IMO.

The problem with that move is that Shireffs is no better. He shouldn’t even be on this team, let alone thrust into the game with our undefeated season and playoff hopes on the line.

We weren’t winning that game

Richt sent Rosier a message there

Yeap, right up there with that onside kick in GT game. Bold moves are judged by results, this one sucked. Uga fans are thinking, that’s our CMR. Crowd is in glory day form. Team is getting close. Mark has some work to do to catch up with the rest of Cane family. Once he get up to speed, we will rock old school.

I was so torn about that move when it happened. I agreed with the apparent reasoning, but disagreed with the timing. It needed to be done; I just wish it had been done earlier.

As many people have said, Rosier was missing BUBBLE SCREENS by 5+ yards. He's never an incredible passer, but today was next-level terrible. He was very off...he needed to be snapped back to reality. Just wish it had been done in the third quarter after some of those failed drives.

I do agree though - Richt sent Rosier a message: No one's job is safe.

It is a good move if your backup is ready. He was not. Rosier has not been on fire any game, he just manages to win. We have been out coached the last two games. Kids pulled out the uva game. Mark merely pulled a qb. Good move would have to figure out why your offense can’t run the ball suddenly. Rosier was bad out there today. So was the coaching staff. Maybe we need second string OC and DC too, so we can pull them.

And to the team, “we have lost this game.” See, until then this team still thought they would win, but I guess Mark is more accustomed to losing at least one game each year.

Money post.
My son and I watching the game could not believe our eyes. Wondering what this move would do to the moral of our team and the swag of Pitt players. Rosier, as bad as he was today, was over 10 games the face of this team and the symbol of its resiliency. You could see Pitt players energized, jumping up and down on the sideline knowing that they forced our will on us.

Immediately after this happened, I told my son Richt raised the white flag. Yeah, sending a message to your QB even if it means surrendering the game while there is still over 10 minutes left. Great move.

I didnt like it because the guy behind him wasnt an upgrade, he got us there let it burn with him there. Im not a Malik guy but that was a bad move by MR Im pretty sure he knows it as well

A lot of overthinking. Rosier sucked so they tried someone else. That someone else looked like a middle school QB so they moved back to Malik. It’s pretty simple

Okay, pulling him, then what? What comes next is what making this move NOT a good move. The effect of pulling the QB who was the symbol of tenacity and resilience of this team without preparing a better replacement would do more harm than good.
