OSUs 3rd down play to start the game where we basically sacked Sayin with everyone

Blount is lined up at Nose Tackle (well slightly to the left of the center)

Then 3 and 4 to his left

Wes is basically our right defensive tackle here and then Lightfoot all the way out wide

I think it’s Scott next to the LDE

Not sure why we even bother discussing what position these guys will play here

I keep hearing Chambliss plays sandlot football

We play sandlot defense

Lu, do you have a post on your thoughts about Chambliss, Kewan and/or Ole miss Offense?
Not yet. I was asking @JustAFanHTX in another thread bc I’ve watched at most 3 full Ole Miss games and maybe part of another.

I just started watching from the beginning of the season, and first thing I asked was how he compared to Marcel Reed, bc I see some of the same attributes. Trinidad gets the ball out cleaner and with better mechanics. In the first two games I’ve watched, he gets the ball out absurdly fast. Like, faster than Louisville and SMU did to us. I saw at least a dozen snap, catch, throws.

Kewan Lacy is my favorite type of modern RB, though probably needs to get a little stronger. Amazing feet. I think he bounces stuff a bit too much, but I understand what he was trying to do against UGA. I finished watching his game against UK, and I think Lane/Weiss overused him in the wrong way. He got what seemed like a million touches, but very little I remember in the pass game. My specific note from watching the game was ‘why don’t they throw the ball to this RB more.’ I thought TAMU did a poor job getting their RBs in the pass game enough, and we’ll see what Ole Miss does. I watched both UGA games, and they still didn’t really throw him the ball as much as I would.

From the 3 full games I’ve watched, albeit two from the same opponent (UGA), it’s heavy ‘super powered SMU’ vibes so far. Their WRs appear better than SMUs as a whole. I really like #2 from what I’ve seen so far.

I’m extremely far from the OL expert on here and always defer, but I’ve watched their Center and one of their Guards get their asses kicked against UGA multiple times. Even Kentucky did work against those two.

That’s all I got so far. More to come.

I expect them to go tempo on all transitions from 2nd to 3rd & medium+ so we can't get the pass rush package in the game. We will kill them inside on 3rd down with that package

I have a skewed view so far because the UK game was QB’d by Austin Simmons. And, the two other games I watched were against UGA. So, maybe they trigger the quick passes more against a team like UGA that seemed to overwhelm their (seemingly from a small sample) weaker interior OL.

I’m moving to LSU next.

LSU is one where they made it a point to go tempo on 3rd down. Lemme know if you find a full game of UF game. UF got 5 sacks, and the one I saw on the condensed game was - shocker - up the middle. He basically hasn't been sacked since then, but UGA and MissSt were awful at sacking the QB and Tulane was overmatched (and only sacked him once the first game).

Appreciate that.. I saw the comment you had with HTX.. I dont see the comparison to Reed other than we just played him.. Maybe its because Reed is younger and maybe in 2 years he will look like Chambliss but their offenses are way different (tamu O had a ton of deep shot over routes that take time vs. Kiffin Briles infused with a ton of hitches that act as extension of run game).. Chambliss is wayyy cleaner and doesnt spray ball as much, if you get him off his spot he will still hit checkdown or get ball out.

Lacy is definitely a beast and good back, also really good in pass pro, he was burying some of the uga blitzers.. Their WR weapons are nice I been a big fan of Stribling since he was at WSU and wish we grabbed him out of portal. Strong WR and a matchup problem who they will get ball to, all of their WR get touches in offense and their TE is another weapon who gets lost in shuffle but they all avg like 15+ yards a catch. Their WR core as whole is much better than SMU, I feel like Hudson was the wmu wr unit.. Here they have 4 guys who can all hurt you in their role.

I think this game knocking balls down that get out quick are HUGE wins, they try to stay on track with quick hitch throws and if we can knock down a few that will be huge, also Tackling the hitch throws for short gains will be BIG. Obviously stop the run as much as possible, Lacy will press the line and try to bounce out to flex that speed on edge.. He forces over 100 miss tackles to lead the nation. And then if we can eliminate the roll out plays where WR get lost in middle of field will be huge.. Their offense can go into lulls but getting them off track to me is major thing.

I dont think we can sit in cover 3, they will hitch and rpo us to death.. Time for our DBs to make money.. obviously we rotate coverages but spot dropping cover 3 please not to much

You think we should play more m2m against Ole Miss?

I dont think you can give them a single look consistently at all.. But they will EAT up consistent cover 3 with all the free release open access throws.. They have no problem taking those on early downs.. and they run rpo which they will take those glance routes also..

Tough to run alot of man with a QB like him tho

Agree on mixing it up, but that's what we usually do. I worry we will get in track meet territory if we play a lot more man than we usually do.

Their offense and personnel is tailor made to take the stuff that's been available to everyone we play in our Cover 3 schemes, with the least risk of suffering the turnovers and sacks that have made the defense so great this year.

I'm resigned to them moving the ball through the air. We need to limit their explosives and especially avoid giving up explosive TDs, and hope we continue to play elite scoring defense when they're in plus territory. Would be cool if Hetherman has some aces up his sleeve plan wise, proves me dead wrong, and suffocates them.

Scoring touchdowns early and often on offense and stopping Lacy on the ground strike me as things within our control that could lead to Chambliss holding the ball longer and hunting for big plays, which would allow the sacks and turnovers our defense excels at to show out.
