Hate to say it mane, but they're going to be pretty good this year. Last year we caught VaTech at the right time. They were down about 6 starters and we took advantage, but remember when they were healthy they spanked the issh out of OSU.

Keep in mind, the last few years, they have caught us at the right time too. Whether it was injuries, suspensions, etc. VA Tech will be a thorn in any team's side because they have GREAT coaching, but their talent is average at best. Brewer is not a good QB. Their OL is not deep or even ACC newsworthy. It will be the D that kills you every time and not because they are that talented on D. the last 3-4 years their talent on D has plummetted. What keeps them winning is Bud Foster. He eats coaches like ours alive.

He basically runs a 4-4 where he walks that one of his toughest DBs into the box and sells out against the run and short pass EVERY down. We get caught without our pants down because we never adjust, and neither do most teams they beat. Look at Ohio St., the were without Braxton Miller and went conservative on O. Bud Foster predicted it, and sold out on everything under 7yds.

Shouldn't you be celebrating Florida's big win in baseball last night, you Gator troll? GTFOH with that mess! The REAL FANS here KNOW Miami is going to win the Coastal AND the National Championship! Mods, ban this pathetic troll before he poisons our minds with his negative opinions!

They beat OSU and it was Barrett's first start or even playing College football. We embarrassed them. They are not winning the Coastal.

VT has no QB and their offense is garbage. Bud Foster isn't enough to overcome that with his defense.

The coastal is ripe for the taking but we all know our coaches will find a way to mess that up.

I think Georgia Tech will win the coastal but agree with OP that VT will be much better as will NC and Pitt with their new coach

Absolutely perfect synopsis of the VaTech team.

Yes it's crazy...but the Coastal is just that--crazy. ANY of the teams in the division could win it...even us, with the exception of UVA, IMO.

Injuries killed VT last year, but they also had a piecemeal WR corps for Brewer to throw to, even though Isaiah Ford is a good player. And it's no lock that Brewer keeps the QB job there...remember, they signed Dwayne Lawson. And they redshirted Andrew Ford last year who was Brewer's main competition for the starting spot in camp. They get JC Coleman and Marshawn Williams back, and they signed a 4* RB out of Chesapeake, Deshawn McClease. Ryan Malleck will be back at TE, and he's a solid player.

Duke and UNC have talent returning, and should be tough...I still think UNC is overrated, though. Pitt will probably have a year to acclimate to Narduzzi and his style on D, but his offense returns most all of their skill players. GT will be good again--something interesting with them, Patrick Skov (Shayne's bro) who played RB at Stanford transferred to GT for his senior season. He'll play some in that B-Back spot, and is a tough kid.

UVA figured out that Matt Johns will be their QB this fall, but not much else. They're still in disarray under London, who of course will likely pull it together enough to beat us.

It's a sad existence--I can point to things that make things look good for us, even after we lost a bunch of guys to the NFL...and can make a case for us winning the Coastal if we improve defensively and become more efficient offensively. BUT--I can as easily (and maybe more easily) make the case that we'll suck and finish next to last in the division as well due mainly to inconsistent corching.

Gun to my head today, here would be my picks for the Coastal:

1) GT
2) VT
3) Pitt
t-4) Duke
t-4) Miami
5) UNC
6) UVA

Their last 4 recruiting classes were 21st, 21st, 29th, and 27th. They have some talent, probably the best secondary in the ACC, and since when did talent matter in the Coastal?

They were #2 in FEI defense behind Clemson last year. Some fans will use the "derp we beat them last year easily so they suck now" logic, but that game was an outlier for their defense, and Duke is gone.

Brewer is average but won the mostimproved player award in Spring, OL is their biggest weakness they have zero depth there and return 3 starters, with several converted TEs and DTs on the 2nd team.

Phil Steele has them at 16, not that it matters, and their OL was improved in the Spring. Besides it is the Coastal, anybody can win the coastal.

I liked Pitt to win the coastal division, but after the Tyler Boyd DUI, I got Miami taking it. VT doesn't have enough offense, GT just got hot last year they won't repeat, UVA has a tough defense but abosolutely no QB (kinda like VT), Duke is a solid 6-6 team.

Miami is bringing back 90% of their defense and freshman all-american QB. With VT, Clemson, GT, Nebraska, & UVA at home.
