I hated it.. but it worked

I absolutely despised taking the ball out of Carson's hands at the end but it worked so what do I know.

Lots to talk about and maybe complain about but f*k that. F*ck Notre Dame. Go Canes.
I lmao and crapped myself when the announcer said, Carson needed to save a time out for the kicker!

While I hated the conservative play calling, I can understand the logic if we were trying to kill their timeouts, not stop clock, or risk the ball in the air against that secondary.

We ran some tempo early on in the game. Curious if that will happen more as we lead to the UF game.

It wasn’t **** but hey 🤷🏾‍♂️. Take their timeouts and unleash the pass rush package. We look like a top 4 team.

It's abundantly clear now that Ward was changing plays at the LOS. Probably even in the Huddle.

Dawson curled up into the fetal position up 14 points tonight.

Tonight could have been like 2017 - we could have run ND out of the god**** building if we'd been aggressive with our play calling.

That reeked of mario getting involved, IMO

Good team win. Stoked to see how this season plays out. Only complaint I have, is play-calling in the 4th quarter was terrible. Whether it's Mario's doing or Dawson, they better get their act together.

They'll keep Texas in the top 5 along with OSU, Penn St, Georgia, & LSU. We'll probably be at 6. But I agree, especially considering Beck is coming off injury and didn't play this spring.

Mario and Dawson tried their hardest to corch this thing up playing not to lose but although dumb imo it all worked out putting the game on the kickers leg. The result worked out.
Hopefully Davis gained some confidence that carries over the rest of the season.

You all forgot Dawson-Mario offense before Cam... bunch of tunnel screens and running up the middle into the teeth of the defense.

That was vintage Mario running up the middle, "fyzical" call on our last drive

Hey, the kicker did his job. My issue was the way-too-conservative play calling once we got up 14pt. Dawson didn’t call a great game in my eyes

We coached not to lose and almost did. But **** Notre Dame. 1-0.

Yes, the conservative play calling worked, and I’m thrilled for the win. But can’t count on that very often against a good team. Miami is lucky. Leaving them no timeouts was good. But giving them over one minute when ND was moving the ball very well all quarter, was just not smart.
I hope Mario learns from this. Even with a win, you have to see that the conservative decisions all quarter nearly cost them a game that should not ended with ND having a chance to tie or win on their last possession.

After the 8 min drive and the 3 and out, that was the time for the kill shot. Even a FG would have sufficed, I was screaming at the TV for a wrinkle or some trickery but like OP said, it worked.

I think we’ll see it open more up by UF.

Beat UF, FSU, Clemson, SMU and we are likely the only team to beat 5 ranked teams heading into the CFP

I was ok with the way the last drive was called. I don’t like the way we went hyper conservative so early in the second half. The referees were letting Notre Dame’s already great corners get away with a ton of grabbing and pushing so throwing it around was a lot tougher but I was disappointed that they coached scared. They have a ton of man to man “busters” in the playbook (they used a ton last year) but we barely saw any last night.

Notre Dame’s very deliberate offense probably affected the decision. Outside of a broken coverage play, they were incredibly methodical and were not really a threat to score quickly.

The good news is, it looks like our kicker actually won a competition for the job instead of just being handed the position because the staff definitely trusted him a lot more than I thought they would.

Every article I read talked about our questionable play calling in the 4th quarter, letting ND to get back into the game. Way too conservative imo.

Hindsight is 20/20. Had he been more aggressive and turned it over, the fire Mario threads would be covering pages of CIS.

HE FORCED ND TO USE 3 TIMEOUTS!!!

We managed to win this one but this type of weak *** beta play-it-safe strategy will bite us in the *** more than twice this season.

For such an alpha with raging testosterone, Mario is a paranoid buffoon on the sidelines with a lead in close games.
