Give the O-line and Brown credit for the running though, and I defend CMC on some thing on this board, but imo he has to make a throw there. A C.Davis miss and ND win there isn't good enough when your best players on O is your QB. JMO

I agree, I was a nervous Nelly for sure.

For most of the game the safeties were at 9 yards and daring us to throw it, but we ran it for 4-7 yards anyway., so with that in mind it's hard.
You have an incomplete pass and it's zero yards, we were running it for a minimum of 3 yards a clip even in tough spots.

I was just hoping just to see a PA with a TE flat, but nope haha

Was almost expecting the PA play that day Arroyo go deep last year on the short yardage. Must be saving it.

Outside of Toney, WR's werent getting much separation and not a single PI call was ever going to be called on ND unless it was a WWE tackle. ND D was good and refs made it better. Still hate the conservative playcalling though, have to have a few go to 3 and short PA pass plays

He doesn’t need to sling it all over but throw the **** ball on 3rd and 4. Put the ball on Toney’s hands. The whole stadium knew we were running up the gut.
 
When the game clock reached zero, I literally had time to yell. "ZERO! ZERO! THE GAME IS OVER!" Before they snapped the ball. ******* refs were gonna bail out Notre Dame one more time.

Still a concern for sure (did you see the first extra point--it barely went in), but definitely a big step in the right direction.

Someone on here said Lyle had an ankle injury. I don't think he played from 2q on.

Marty Brown was a pleasant surprise for me. He ran hard, and belongs…I've been worried about that take since he came aboard. THAT BEING SAID…I really hope CMC doesn't fall in love with him, we still need Fletcher and we need Lyle's explosiveness.
 
Tonight’s game was a true testament to the growth of this program. Watching the offense march down the field for the go-ahead field goal, followed by the defense absolutely overwhelming Notre Dame’s offensive line, was a thing of beauty. The win may not have been pretty, and like many of you I thought it should have been a blowout, but beating the #6 team in the nation fresh off a national championship appearance is a massive statement.

Yes, there were mistakes, and that is expected with 19 transfers, but those are fixable. Now it is back to the lab to clean up the details and keep building. This team has all the tools to make a serious playoff run.
 
1st game of the season. New QB. New kicker. As the OP says....it worked. If the opponents had an extra couple minutes on the clock, we may lose.

I think the “playing scared” had more to do with it being the 1st game of the season and Carson not having as much time with the offense. There wasn’t a need to put the ball at risk against a so called “elite” secondary.

Get the win, and get to next week. I expect by Florida game they will be full go on offense.

I get that. I think the inexperience at WR played a part on that but that's just my guess.
 
Some of y’all will never he’s satisfied, LOL.

Beck will have plenty of opportunity to let it fly this year. That’s the best secondary in the country arguably and we did what we had to and took care of the ball.

Refs had their say in this game and kept ND in it, they missed multiple PI calls.
