I find it interesting that D$ or Pete.....

Bad fit or not Strong is proving to be a Corch at Texas and I find it crazy that we finally rid ourselves of a corch in Golden to try and swoop in and take Texas's trash. It's baffling really, we are paying this search committee to basically interview former players that want their buddy Mario which is just as shocking.

I realize Herman is likely off the board with the money being offered by Houston though I truly believe we can offer him more. But how can we settle at this point. Strong and Cristobal feel like settling and that's going to be the possible death blow to this program.

Pete is at a Columbus High alumni retreat with Mario and Joaquin right now at the Gaylord Palms Resort in sunny Orlando, Florida. They're working on a full frontal media slurp job to commence immediately following the announcement of the hire. They're also enjoying some delicious tostada and cafe cubano. Weeeeeee back!

I agree with you but hiring Mario or ******* is not settling, it's complete insanity. That would be incompetence at a level I had previously thought unimaginable. Consider the following. Golden was 6-6 his first year at UM and he parlayed that into a raise and an extension. After 4 1/2 years of complete garbage football it took a full fledged fan revolt to get this administration to can him. Now after getting rid of that **** the same administration is seriously considering hiring a coach with a losing record at Texas. Even better is that the other really hot option has a coaching record of 27-47. You just can't make this **** up!

I just don't like to speculate. Nothing really new to report.

I said that several big money people want Butch, and there was growing support for Strong (particularly with Blake). That's the last I heard.

So... Are you confirming that Blake has no idea what he is doing?

Do we really need someone "legit" to confirm that for us? Blake is not equipped to do this right....

Butch may be signed, sealed, and to be delivered on Black Friday.

Butch Comin and Strong will be his DC

Search firms tend to be conservative in their recommendations. I work with search firms in my industry and typically they only present candidates with a track record of 10+ years of consistent success in their job. They will not make a risky recommendation because if they recommend someone who gets hired and fails, then *their* reputation is damaged.

If Korn Ferry follows suit then they would immediately rule out Mario as a high risk candidate. I say Mario's chances are slim and none if James listens to KF.

Typically a search firm would have reservations about a candidate like Strong, whose currently struggling. That candidate would have to have a very good explanation for the struggle. Ironically, a candidate like Butch would get serious consideration because of his reputation for building programs, including a proven track record at UM, assuming no fault is found from his tenure at UNC.

I'm predicting KR will only recommend candidates with:

- a proven track record as a Head Coach
- no serious weaknesses
- low risk

Then, it will be up to James with the inpit from the BOT to choose from among the candidates. ****, we're all just guessing here, but that's my $.02.

As for timing, I would rather see UM hire the right person slowly (within three weeks) than the wrong person quickly.

Is every search committee required to develop or be given terms of reference? If the committee at the U has one, why don't they release it to public?

Our CEO announced he would be stepping down a while back. Korn Ferry was brought in and did a nationwide search to decide that the optimal candidate for CEO was our COO. I'm sure we paid them a small fortune to decide the best person was the second in command.

I'd say that looks good for Butch.

Listen to your boy's silence.

Pete usually posts a hundred times a week. No posts at all since he mentioned Butch. Tells me it's likely a done deal. I've been thinking Butch was hired a week ago and they're just playing huckabuck with this search firm. Smoke and mirrors.

Listen to your boy's silence. Listen calmly and listen acutely.

My question is who is on the list of 40 names that Korn Ferry presented to the school? Those coaches, according to Barry Jackson, are currently coaching and have expressed interest in the job. That what Jackson, D$, Peter, or Jagr need to uncover right there. There may be some names on there that we may not have even heard yet.

These search firms are a joke. We paid Chuck Neinas $50K to recommend Shannon.

Considering we've only heard the same 4 names regurgitated every time this job opens, there are at least 36 names on that list no one has mentioned.

Sarcasm? Because I can see it being a good point...lol never know with you

@TheFranchise Exactly. There needs to be some real investigation work and find out who the other names are on this list. I've heard about Strong and Butch and all the other usual suspects ad nauseam. I want to know who has interest in the job and who is "outside the box." Patterson, Rodriguez, Dantonio, Dykes, Petersen, Holgerson, Smart, Vernables, Leach, etc. Let's hear about it. This is the news that I want. Who are the other folks?
