I’m down bad fellas. Just brutal.

I traveled to every playoff game on this magical run. We were in so may nailbiter games. Since December 19 it’s been a month full of constant travel and anxiety and we kept coming out on the winning end. Just brutal to come up short after all of it. Still laying in bed. Just soul crushing.

Given the playoff format it seems impossible to go through another 3 game gauntlet to get back to this game. Maybe that’s because we have sucked the past 20 years so it feels improbable that we can do this again? I suppose if Mario really is turning us into a monster then we should make it back the way Alabama and Georgia are always getting to this game in the past.

Just had to type all of this out and vent.

Someone help me get out of bed and convince me we can get back to this game again.
Oddly enough I’m more confident in Mario in playoff games than a weird week 7 game against a lesser team. The guy gets the most out of his teams against the best but for some reason plays around with bad teams

No doubt this absolutely hurts. Lifelong fans since we beat Nebraska back in the day but I don't feel the sting as much as past defeats- I won't take the time now to name them but there's a handful that were worse than this.

I had to re-watch the second half as I kept telling myself- how did we lose this game after dominating the second half. But the truth is Indiana put together two very good drives to seal the game. Hats off to them.

I've also gotten to a point where I look at the plays the other team missed and not just the plays we did not make that could have won us the game.

TXam - We are one play away from OT
Ohio St. - Without the pick 6 ,that game is a toss-up.
Ole Miss - Nothing here- should have won this game by 2-3 scores ,yet we did trial in the 4th.
IU - Their last drive, when they scored a FG. They had a 2nd and 1 on our 14 with 1:56 in the game and they had a 5 yd motion penalty-w/o that, they almost surely get a 1st down and game over.

This game is disappointing but the reality is that we exceeded all expectations for this year !!

I didn't expect to beat Texas A&M or Ohio St.

I was weirdly confident we'd beat Ole Miss, but knew we'd have to survive their emotional rollercoaster.

I'm still flabbergasted we lost to Indiana. That is not a talented team. This one hurts more than any loss during my time as a Canes fan.

Losing to Penn State in 1989 is the one game that I will point to where we were clearly the more talented team. Out gained them two to one in yardage but Vinny T. throws 5 interceptions.

This IU team was not obviously less talented than us and had the advantage at the most important position on the field -QB. 50/50 if we play again .

The PSU game back in the day- we beat them 9/10 times.

I said at the beginning of the season, “success” would be winning the ACC and getting to the playoffs. In my wildest dreams of the season I didn’t think we would go from 10 wins to the natty. Cristobal far exceeded my expectations. It hurts now because it Felt magical and like we were destined to win once we got to the championship game, but truthfully I think we were a little ahead of schedule.

Next year isn’t going to require magic. It’s going to be blunt force trauma on cfb . If we get Mensah and his WR, we get almost the same production on offense as we did during Cam Ward years. Based on the talent in defense , I expect very little drop off in even with Bain and Mesidor in the NFL. So 2024 offense with close to a 2025 defense?

Since i think we win the ACC, Miami will be in position where it has to just win 2 playoff games against lower seeds to be back in the national championship game. Maybe we even have a road to the championship game as easy as Indiana did, and face massively overrated SEC and B1G teams. Hard as it may be to believe, I think our 2026 team will be more dominant than this years squad.
