Blame the players. They wanted Coker. Who did go 23-1, and a horrible call from back-to-back undefeated NCs. In the long run a smart young coach who knew what he was getting would have been better. Someone not going to start over ‘his way’. I think the players were worried Barry Alvarez was going to be hired.Fair enough but Coker was a lazy hire. We really hired a guy that only got a job from an upstart college after he left?
Coker’s job at UTSA was probably due to his age, or at least partly due. That, and the Canes annually declined until a 7-6 final season. He also might not have been fired it not for the FIU brawl near the end of 2006.
