hypothetically how much could we offer a coach if...

if the stadium sold out
a few more national games
top bowl money
sold more merchandise nationally
1. has never/will never happen at a 75k stadium
2. we are on national tv every week
3. bowl money is the same; it is all acc wellfare money to share
4. we already sell a bunch, but could sell more I guess

UM can offer what anyone else offers. You guys got sucked in like fish by the excuse makers who fed you the excuse that we suck because we're poor. UM can raise a few million bucks in a couple hours.

Raising the money and actually spending it on football coach are to different things.

Try not to be dense. UM can pay whatever anyone else pays. There's no need to pay any more than they're paying for Folden. In fact, he's overpaid. Just because they're not going to absurdly overpay him doesn't mean we can't pay whatever anyone else is paying for a guy who deserves it.

The dimwits on here seem to think UM is holding the school together with duct tape and chicken wire.

If you include the eventually buyout, AL will probably cost us 3.0-3.5M per year during his tenure. Our retarded admin love to spend on the back end with the buyout.

Coker = Buyout

RS = Buyout

Perry Clark = Buyout

Whatever you all want to call it, I don't see UM spending the kind of money the top programs do on a coach. If they were inclined or even able to do it, they sure haven't shown it with the last few hires.

Then you get into the question of, lets say you can offer 3m. Who are you going to offer that to? Who does that really get you? You aren't going to lure a Nick Saban or Urban Meyer to Miami at 3M. You wouldn't even get Garry Patterson out of TCU for 3m. So then who? Mark Stoops? Is Mark Stoops worth 3M a year?

$3M would get you pretty much what we got. A coach happy to be in the top 50 of highest paid coaches. I think Alfred is like in the mid 40's of that list now. You can have Mark Stoops but that's a different discussion.

$3 million would actually get you in the top 25 of all college coaches. It would put us up there with Ole Miss, Nebraska, Louisville, and right behind Clemson, UCLA, Georgia, Baylor. That's total pay too, including bonuses, not just base salary.

Those figures aren't stagnant though. You have to factor in that the contracts you're citing weren't signed yesterday and the figures obviously constantly escalate. $2.5 mil per signed 2 seasons ago is $3 mil in a contract after this season.

Those were the numbers for what the coaches are actually making in 2014, not what their original contract was signed at. No reason we have to be stagnant as well.

Obviously I agree but if you think you're going to get an acceptable reason to why we don't do certain things then you might be in line for a healthy dose of disappointment.

Trust me, I know that

1 billion dollars

Would that be enough for Butch?

Possibly

My goodness!

Not Butch again. People are like the Ex that stalks for years. Please leave him alone. He's too risky for the program right now and frankly, aside from his recruiting prowess he still not a good game day coach. Fantastic DC though.

It was a joke.

Got it! Jokes on me.

Our fund-raised athletic budget is the same as UF's($100M)

The Goldenbots just need an excuse to keep their tasty little meat treat around

$100 million isn't the budget, it's raised funds that have to be spread over the course of a few years among every sport. you don't just take that $100 million and spend it all in a year. the gators actually spend $100 million in a year on their athletic department because of their fat tv contracts and insane donor network. if you think that um actually spends $100 million annually on athletics, then you should work on your reading comprehension when looking at the two articles you linked.

that being said, i'd like to see a good portion of that $100 million pay off the ludicrous buyouts that are still on the books and to get a solid head football coach.
