Aside from making Alonzo Highsmith an enormously influential donor, what are they planning to do with the money? Do they say anywhere?

he has been on talk radio, 560 WQAM, and went into detail. http://miami.cbslocal.com/audio/joe-rose-show/ If there is anyone who I trust and believe deserves our support it's him. I understand hating on Donna, Al and Blake BUT Alonzo is real. Do what you think is best. I believe in him.
 
Yeah, the idea of giving UM unconditional money for athletics is just horribad, given their recent track record. I haven't seen much evidence that genuine poverty is the problem. If he's raising money so that they can achieve specific goals -- which necessarily include good coaches -- I could be convinced.

That is exactly what he plans on doing. He will not "give them money". He will build it his way. I wish he was our AD. fwiw
 
Biggest investment needs to be head coach. So if he isn't raising money for the next coach and staff, then he can pound sand
 
Frankly, that he does not say "football players" instead of "athletes" and "football team" instead of "sports program" is enough to make me need more information.

He was tweeting about giving to women's sports, you know, the same ones that Title IX lets rob the moneymaking sports
 
he's going to do thing the CORRECT way. Everything you wish we had in our AD is in him. If you say you are witholding money from the university, help buildingtheu.com all i'm saying. For those of you who don't give, have season tickets and never give anything to anyone… lol move on nothing for []_[] to see here.
 
I gave. And will continue to give as I can. They can't ignore him and these funds.
Anyone who truly wants to make a difference should consider this avenue. Of course,
if you just want to sit here *****ing with your wallet closed you're going to have to
explain to me how this isn't the same sort of insanity you accuse the administration of.
 
Don't buy tickets this year and support Golden. Instead take the money you would have spent on tickets and donate it to this.

Why would he limit his potential donor base by singling out the football team in needing of funds? There are potential donors who care about things other than football so using boarder language is the best way to achieve maximal funds.

Are you that jaded by the UM Athletics program to think that a former UM great football player wouldn't allocate the money in the proper direction?

Kinda hard to give when it doesn't say in any way how the money is going to be used. I like his message. But I don't see a specific goal. Why would I want to give money to something that vague?

Did you read the last line of before the donate button?


All donations will be going towards the University of Miami Football Program.

Just above the Donate Button. If he uses this as a lever on the administration I am all in. Just subsidizing HC salary of an ACCEPTABLE HC would help. Lot of schools have huge separate donor funds like that. Also, extra $$$ for good assistants would be nice. New OB is probably out of reach. The danger is that the school will just withdraw its money from anything the funds contributes to, and we will thereby be giving money second hand. I certainly trust Highsmith more than BOT and administration. But Mike and Bennie coming out with party line stuff has hurt older players' creditability. Still, I will be giving to Alonzo's and then watching what he does with it.
