Assuming the Domers don't join us (which seems inevitable) how good will the ACC be over the next 2 years or so?

Here are my rankings for the next 2ish years, but I'd love to hear your guys take on it:

1. Clemson - They are the legit King Kong of the ACC and CFB! Unless Dabo is swayed to take over when Saban leaves or hop to the NFL after another NC or two, they aren't going anywhere for a while.
2. Miami - With Manny's hire and the people he's bought in, as of today, I'd say we're easily #2 in the ACC. If we get Hurts, we will be the 1st legitimate threat to Clemson and winning the ACC in 4 years (or whenever the rapist In Tally's last season was).
3. Syracuse - I'm totally happy with Manny, but their coach was in my top 3 for HC at the U. He will get NFL offers next season and larger colleges. If the donors at SU can step up and make him stay, they will be legit for at least the next couple years.
4. NC State - They are slowly building a legit team. It seemed like they bumped up a couple of seasons ago and you thought, "yeah, that was an aberration" but they have continued to stick around and develop players. They're a tough game now every time we play them.
5. PITT - If they can hold on to that coach, much like Syracuse, he is building something there. He's kind of a jerk, which we've all learned is not necessarily a bad thing in a HC. In fact, you could easily see them become the 3rd best team in the ACC if he sticks around.
6. FSU - Just based on the athletes they get alone, they will normally win 7 games or more. Like many of you, I just don't believe Taggert is a good coach. He's like the Zha Zha Gabor of college football - famous for being famous. It looks like he did upgrade some of his staff, and he's never stayed at a legit school long enough to ascertain whether or not he sucks or if he can actually improve, but until proven otherwise, the Noles are at best, 6th in the conference.
7. BC - Like some of these other schools above them, they are just incrementally getting better and bringing in the right players. They'll poised to have a break out year every now and again when the right players and coaches on their staff synergize.
8. UVA - They're kind of building something there. Also, the state produces a lot of talent and the school itself is quasi-Ivy league, so there's that pitch. Like so many of these other teams, if they keep their coach, they could build something serious.
9. Duke - Like many of these other schools, they could certainly be ranked higher depending on the year. They had some momentum a few years ago like they were building a VT type team, but it went away. That and they lost the best QB they've had in a while.
10. VT - Surprisingly low and they could quickly turn that around, but I don't think they will until they bring in another coach. Good news for them is that they do have athletes in their region that they traditionally recruit, so if the right guy came in, they could easily become the 3rd or 4th best team in the conference, but for the next year or two...
11. UNC - Mack Brown...I'll believe it when I see it.
12. GT - Who knows what the new guy will do, but now that they don't run that awful option anymore (thank God!!) they will have to overhaul the team. I'm listing them at 12, but the intriguing thing is, with them being in GA and moreover, being in ATL, that team has the potential to become a MONSTER program if the right coach goes there. Until proven otherwise, however...
13. Wake - NC has great talent. It's a strong academic school and every now and again, they jump up and get solid. Wakey wakey...
14. Louisville - This once proud team is just a dumpster fire. We'll see what new management can do, but unlike teams that are in talent rich areas like GT, this is gonna be a serious uphill struggle.

From NY north and east there is 7 states. Only 2 power 5 schools in those 7 states . That is Syracuse and BC. I have never understood why both are not really good every year. I can remember when Syracuse was a powerhouse.

Say composite over the next 5 years

Atlantic:
Clemson
Florida State
Syracuse
NC State
Boston College
Louisville
Wake Forest

Coastal:
Miami
Virginia Tech
North Carolina
Virginia
Georgia Tech
Pittsburgh
Duke

Don't sleep on Louisville.
Satterfield is a very good coach and his defenses have always been underrated.
They also have good eye for football talent.

Jim Boeheim built a solid program for sure. His extended 2-3 defense revolutionized the big east. Carmelo Anthony also had one of the best freshman seasons that I can remember.

To me the most frustrating thing about Miami for the past... as long as I can remember, is that we should basically win the Coastal every year. There's really no excuse. We should absolutely never lose to Pitt, Virginia, UNC, etc. I can see VT being a challenge here and there but hopefully Manny and co. will have us dominating subpar competition like we should. Now Clemson in the ACCCG is a different story.

Gotta ADD TO THIS... Don't forget that the MONEY will be rolling in with the new ACC NETWORK.

GOING FROM 25-30 MILLION PER TEAM/YEAR TO 35-40 MILLION PER TEAM/YEAR.

MONEY BUILDS, MONEY WINS, MONEY MATTERS.

There was no Big East the days I was referring to..Syracuse was where Jim Brown, Larry Czsonka .Floyd Little and Earnie Davis played. They were a powerful team then and won a NC. I suspect at least 2/3 of the posters here were not born yet in those days.

Wrong all over the place... I think a bunch of schools will be higher than cuse. Pitt over Fsu🤔... interesting but naw your list is too ambiguous for me.

Yes.

There’s some solid coaching in the ACC. It’s going to tighten things up even more. Hopefully on a higher level haha.

Also consider the teams with the talent advantages (other than Clemson) are the ones with probably the biggest coaching questions

I think as fans we sometimes take a static look at college football with respect to our beloved Canes.... specifically, that it is possible that we can improve but overlooking that other programs can improve as well....you also make a good point about the teams with the talent advantages.

I don't see Taggart lasting long at FSU, in fact I wouldn't be shocked if he were fired this year or in 2020. The Boosters don't like him & many of them never wanted him in the first place, which means they're not going to be patient at all with him & considering they just hired his potential replacement in Briles the clock is ticking on Taggart.

GTech & Louisville could be sleepers imo. GTech will probably take a few years but Geoff Collins is a pretty good Defensive coach, he's a George O'leary disciple from back in his GTech days in the 90's & was with him at UCF, he also had some good Defenses at Miss St & UF. I don't think they'll win the Coastal anytime soon but I think they can be a 8-4 type team on a regular basis, but they simply will never be a recruiting powerhouse despite being in ATL, they don't have the resources & kids in Georgia will never view them as a go to destination.

Satterfield did a great job at App St, he's a really good Offensive coach & will have Lville's O up & running by year 2.
His challenge will be can he recruit well enough to keep up in the Atlantic, as a pure X's & O's guy he's already more advanced than Taggart but the difference is the access to talent & resources between the two programs.

With Mack Brown at UNC, he's been out of coaching for a while so I wonder if he still has the passion or is this just a late retirement gig for him. The one thing I will say, is he hired Phil Longo who's a great OC & has built some really good uptempo passing attack offenses, so at least on that front it looks like Mack isn't completely asleep at the wheel. He also hired two recruiters known for bag dropping, Lonnie Galloway & Time Brewster (lol), so we know UNC will amp up the cheating even more than they were before lol.

@reg was joking that those are basketball schools.

And Syracuse won a NC back before universities in the south were integrated. The Jim Browns and Ernie Davis's of today are going to Alabama, UGA, LSU, etc...

Oh ****! How did UNC pull Longo?

Miami and FSU have a permenant residence in the top 4 of this conference. Year to year maybe one of them is lower but overall us and FSU have more talent, access to talent and resources than all other schools not named Clemson.

we shouldn't lose to them but they have continuity at coaching and frankly better depth. there top end talent didn't match Miami but depth was better and a lot of them pitt/unc/duke/bc been building for 7 or 8 yrs. Miami better talent but talent only wins if u are a complete team Miami hasn't been due to coaching and other things like lack of depth behind the starters for years

Sad part is they don't coach or play like it.

The thing about Clemson is I could see their reign coming to an end in the next 5-7 years, mostly because I'm going to make a prediction that Saban will retire in the next 4-5 years and when that happens I think Bama throws the Brinks truck at Dabo and he bolts for Tuscaloosa. Clemson has recruited well under Dabo, but I think their primary strength is the coaching staff. Right around that time FSU's new coach will be hitting his stride(Urkle will be gone, trust me), and they should go back to running that division again.
