How we feeling about SMU matchup?

They simply load up the middle - three deep, as 49 out of 50 plays will be attempts between the Guards. No sweeps, nothing else.

They won't have to worry about pass defending the middle of the field at all - we never use it - it's forbidden.

Whatever play we call, it's likely going to be called again. And we only use maybe five or six plays.

Our defense plays so far off the receivers, there will be plenty of cushion for short, quick passes - all day long.

The short passes negate our Mesidors and Bains, as Louisville proved. If we could play press, it would slow down their receivers and give another second or two for our defense to flatten the QB - but that's too obvious.

They'll only have to defend against two of our receivers - they get all the pass attempts -

We should not require much strategy - especially since we don't really bring much strategy with us. It's all based on repetition.

Funny, sad and true.
 
Press coverage - slows the route - gives your All-American edge players time to get home, and puts your CBs and Safeties within arms
reach to defend a pass in quick game, or god forbid, maybe step in front of one for a pick 6.

The speed is predicated on the betters,,it's not a power rating,,
BTW, Miami going 11-1,, it ain't a loss till ya lose..
 
I am trying to stay positive, I promise. But:

- SMU has a Top 20 rushing defense
- Dallas can be sneaky cold in November
- Lashlee is an excellent playcaller
- Jennings might be the best quarterback we face all season.
- A bunch of ex-Canes jacked up to play us.
- Our quarterback might be having a crisis of confidence

Having said all that, we will almost certainly find a horrific way to lose to Stanford next week and I will throw myself into oncoming traffic.

Look at smu schedule. Hasn’t exactly played tams that are good at running. Jennings throws a lot of picks. They only have 2–3 former Miami guys

Don’t get me wrong, we are the better team and should win. SMU is not better than half the teams we have played. But we are barely better than half those teams either right now.

Dawson has it all in his playbook. Orbit to Jacolby, every other motion there is, flea flicker, jet sweep, multiple screens, off tackle, IZ, RPO and all the attachments off of it and more. He just doesn’t use it. I can’t for the life of me figure out why.

He either is an awful gameday play caller (he’s had really good games so I don’t believe this) or Mario wants this team to have an identity and Dawson is handcuffed. Somebody needs to figure that out and fix it.
