How to utilize Elijah Lofton

His blocking was definitely a concern. I hope it was just rust and he improves going forward.

I would love to see him in a split backfield, running or motioning out putting the defense in a bind. Possibly in space against a LB.

Use him in some RPO's in the flats like we did with Herndon and Njoku back in the day, He's a beast to bring down in the open field.

TE Screens - suck the pass rush up field and drop it off to him. maybe save this for the Gators.

Also rushing the ball - I was at the spring practice scrimmage last year that he looked amazing.

What other ways would you hope to see Dawson use some creativity with him?

He will be fine. He was WIDE open on the last drive of the first half when Beck moved up in the pocket a little bit and threw to CJ Daniels. He would of had a easy TD.

He’s 6’2 240. Sounds like a FB and obviously his route running allows you to flex him out and use him in the passing game. He made those type of blocks last year, but #27 on ND was legit.

I saw 2 missed chipped blocks at the game where it's hard to catch those details. In the rewatch at home I saw it. It's completely different watching the game tape and seeing it all. I knew our TE's were 1 position ND outplayed us, but tape made it much worse. He is not a blocker.

All reports from spring and fall were that his blocking looked really good. He's been working back from injury so it's entirely possible he just had an off game. As for being an offensive weapon I do hope Dawson gets creative with him the way OP describes. He's a mismatch nightmare.

He missed a big chunk of Fall camp with an injury lol. Lofton will play a bigger role when he's 100% and he's gotten more reps with Beck

I’d be interested to see what’s everyone’s actual expectations are for him? I’m thinking 25-30 rec for about 300 yrds. Idk if the ROI is there to be in the lab scheming up Lofton specials.
