This is primarily a recruiting issue.Instead of modifying the offense to accommodate a weak O line, maybe start by fixing the O line and the other problems won't be so exacerbated.

Well, the thread title said return to the top 15 in 2020. That's 11 months away. Recruit? Portal? Replace coach? Develop the ones we have?We don't have the OL horses to fix the problem.... now what?
Timeframes are irrelevant. We aren't catching Clemson without a significant coaching UPGRAYEDD.The practical steps to finishing the 2019 season strong to re-light our recruiting and fan base:
- Priority #1: Bring back the Top 3 defense — Manny has proven he can create monsters on D. He needs to put his HC *** on the line for this primary objective. We lost 5 good horses to the draft this year— but we have a couple future stars in GR and NS
- Priority #2: Play the GAME TIME QB — I don’t want to hear about film-room/practice-time stars.... We need game time winners who can improvise around our porous OL.
- Priority #3: Modify the Offense -- to play with weak-link O-Line. We are NOT going to fix the OL this year— there isn’t the talent to do so- ZERO. The QB, RB, TE and WR need to have a game plan that maximizes their strengths and relies less on the OL holding back the rush. Bubble screen them to death, quick swing pass, WR sweeps, quick outs, QB scrambles, Wild-cats (TATE?!)
These adjustments and modifications can help us possibly Win out in 2019. The momentum will win recruits and fans. This will help us launch into 2020.
But let’s be honest— I don’t believe we’ll be able to even SNIFF Clemson’s jockstraps without another 2-3 years of Top 5 recruiting classes and exceptional coaching. But that’s the future— what we need to focus on right now is the present opportunities for IMPROVEMENT.
Go Canes...

Suddenly your response makes a lot more sense.Ok i get your point... i thought you were speaking about this year.
OL and field goals are our biggest weakness that needs shoring up for 2020.
Closely followed by defensive backfield and return game.
I don't want to be ranked until....
Can we modify the BOT and entire athletic department?
I like your passion and optimism....
But we ain't close to challenging Clemson....
They would do to us what they did to FSU--- 40+ points to our 10-14...
Thank you. I forget how the old grassy quote wentGood enough to stay there
No chance 1-loss Miami gets in over 1-loss Alabama without a conference title and having lost by 30+ to Clemson.
?? Alabama had a loss to Georgia and Auburn in 2017.
For a second I thought you might be right but looks like they only lost once: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Alabama_Crimson_Tide_football_team
South Carolina just beat UGA. You think USCe has anywhere near the talent level of UGA? Georgia has crushed recruiting for 3 straight years.
We don't play Clemson 12 games in a row. Just have to beat them once. UNC showed that Lawrence is not perfect. And has been pointed out, Clemson doesn't have a single O Lineman in the NFL. The Clemson OL wins with scheme. The Miami DL will have several draft picks (and maybe a couple 1st rounders).
Besides, Miami had a shot at making the playoffs in 2017 even WITH a loss to Clemson, but Richt blew that chance with the Pitt loss.
Do you think our 2017 team was light years better than the 2019 team? I don't. Richt is a superior coach to Diaz but I'd take our 2019 QB, TE, and RB corps over the 2017 team. Miami lost its 2 best players, Walton and Richards, to start the season. Then we lost Herndon at the end. Play the ACC championship with a healthy AR82, Walton, and Herndon and I think Miami has a reasonable chance at an upset. End result is probably still a 34-24 win for Clemson, but being 10 points away from Clemson isnt an insurmountable distance to close. I think its easy to get down on the team but Miami has a lot of talent.
Not long ago Miami fans thought we'd never close the gap with FSU. They still have more 5 stars than Clemson if I'm not mistaken. In 2014 Jameis Winston was an all world QB and FSU had a Cane Killer in Dalvin Cook. FSU also had a multiple championship winning HC, we had Al Golden. 30-26 victory for FSU. We blew the lead to gift them the game with 3 min left. Nearly every Miami FSU game comes down to the wire. On paper, the talent disparity between FSU and Miami was larger than the difference between Clemson and Miami.
And yes, our 2014 team had a lot of talent, but nearly all that talent was recruited by a cheesy used car salesman while the NCAA was hanging the death penalty over the school.
I've been wondering how special the 2017 season could have been if kaaya and njoku returned instead of declaring for the draft. This!
