How much of a moron must Coley feel like for leaving FSU

I think Coley took a calculated risk. It just didn't work out for him. Mainly because he just wasn't a good play caller. I guess he felt that he had no chance for advancing his career staying at FSU while Jimbo did all the work. Yeah, he ended up taking a demotion in the long run but receivers coach at an SEC school is hardly working the drive thru. He knew he could always fall back as a position coach somewhere. Sometimes you just have to take a risk.

Halfback pass in the snow.

The main point of the OP, IMO, is that Coley is demonstrating a track record of making poor decisions.

Leaving FSU when he did was a bad decision. Calling that halfback pass in the snow during the bowl game was a bad decision.

The halfback pass in the snow was a poor decision. Leaving FSU, in hindsight turned out to be a mistake but at the time nobody besides maybe a few angry FSU fans thought he was doing himself a disservice. Yeah, it's easy to look back now and say, "What the **** was he thinking" but at the time, NOBODY was saying that.

There is little truth to what he is saying....Got to look at Tom Herman and how he was Ohio State's OC under Urban Meyer...Everyone knows that Urban Meyer is an offensive guy and expects that he calls the plays but Herman was still coveted because of his pass jobs and success with OSU. Someone would have offered Coley as a HC had he stayed for 2013 and ended the year with a NC.

Herman was absolutely the playcaller and real OC at Ohio Taint.

Not sure if the guy meant pass(ing) jobs or past jobs. Either way he did a ton with their offense and the way they played lights out later in the season. He did wonders with their QB situation.

He didn't make a mistake leaving FSU. He made a mistake not learning how to call plays.

Well I'd argue him going into the coaching profession was a bad decision. He should stick to recruiting.

What is more outrageous is Coley's lack of awareness about the fact that a close variant of the play had been tried in roughly a similar situation, on national TV, in a meaningful game and only WEEKS before...With disastrous results (Starts at 2:27:20):

Did he think he could draw it up and execute it it better than Army? That WSU's defense was worse than Navy's? IN THE @#$% SNOW?!?!

As soon as the play started that moment in El Paso, I knew it was the end, I had seen it before...But not Coley, AND HE WAS BEING PAID TO KNOW IT!!!

Good Riddance, I hope he ends up on No D's Pop Warner squad.

Atrocious playcaller but without him there's no Kaaya or Allison and then maybe there's no Richt. So I'm ambivalent about piling on a guy for making a bad career choice (in the eye's of the OP as he'd have been exposed as a bad playcaller anywhere) by coming home when he probably did/would have many other options. He'll always be of high value on someone's staff if he can spot QB's early but obviously needs some major tutelage himself before he should be given the keys to an entire offense again.
