First of all, the preseason rankings mean nothing.
Secondly, they beat us soundly.
Thirdly, they beat Auburn who was ranked in the top 10 at the time.
Lastly, we have no quality wins to move up in the rankings and we won't for the remainder of the regular season. The only way we are moving up is if we keep winning and the teams in front of us get 2 losses.
Fortunately, I counted at least 6 teams in front of us that will have at least 2 losses because of head to head competition. They are: 2 teams of Michigan, Wisconsin, or Penn State; 2 teams of either Texas, Oklahoma, or West Virginia; and 2 teams of Florida, LSU , or UGA. So, we could move up to the top ten if we win out in the regular season. I don't think there's a possibility that we can make the CFP even if we win the ACC. Notre Dame would need to lose. If ND wins out, Clemson could get left out of the CFP because they don't have any real quality wins and really need UM to win out and be in the top 10 for the ACC Championship game.
UCF at #10 is a joke. They don't have a quality win. They are given credit for beating Auburn last year which is completely stupid. This is a new season. You should be judged for what you do this year not in the past. Colorado is undefeated yet they are #19. They have better wins than UCF. When the CFP Committee puts out their 1st ranking, I think UCF will be ranked around #20. Sadly, we might be at #19 or #20 because we don't have any marquee wins either and won't even get an opportunity unless we win the Coastal and face Clemson in the ACC Championship. The fact is the ACC is down this year.
