As far a recruiting momentum? I hate that bowl, just like many of you, but the fact is, we haven't won a bowl game in a decade of any sort. Do you think this bowl game is important as far as recruiting and/or players staying or leaving?

IMO the bowl itself is irrelevant. the key is this team getting to 9 wins in spite of the coaching situation. shows that there is a lot of talent in place already. not n overhaul. says a lot to some of these recruits who "want to win" we would have won 5 of the last 6. continue the positive momentum going into the home stretch of recruiting

I totally agree, NFL eligilble players will make their own decision no matter the out come the game, Hopefully everyone comes back to help the team get their degree and improve their draft stock. Buts that wishful thinking

I was 13 our last bowl win... Very important just to show what can be done with talent. A 9 win Miami team bringing back talent with a proven coach makes us sound a lot better.

It matters. It goes long way for recruits to realize that merely getting rid of Golden turn the team into winners. Now add Mark and things are a lot better. It washes away 10 years of crap raises the storm flags. Plus, these kids have put up with Golden. Getting the win will be very nice for them.

"I'm Mark Richt and I'm taking over a 9 win team."

Yeah, that sounds okay to me as part of a recruiting pitch.

This. Finishing the season strong AFTER Golden's firing will mean a lot to recruits as well as any player contemplating leaving early (Coley). I've now heard two journalists call us a "sleeping giant". Going into 2016 strong, and with a proven HC, will solidify our position for a successful 2016 season.

The Sun Bowl is the worst possible bowl we could have gotten both in location and timing because there won't be too many fans there. But it's still a recorded game and a win is a win. 9-4 is now our goal. Incredible seeing as we went 6-7 last season with better talent and without an interim head coach.

Now this is a really good angle. Didn't really think about it like that. Heard a snippet that we haven't won 4 of 5 games down the stretch of the season since 2009. ugggh. I think seeing this bowl win, no matter how irrelevant this bowl game is to the tradition of our program, shows Miami has fully moved away from the Golden era.

It could be a boost to player confidence, maybe recruiting. Richt is not coaching it though so it won't tell us much about next year's scheme etc.

maybe I'm just blocking out last season due to health reason, but it is truly amazing that we went 6-7 w/ more NFL talent on the roster, to go to a possible 9 win season and a bowl victory w/ a first year interim coach in the middle of the season. It truly shows how incompetent Golden truly was....a program would be stupid to hire him again if they see after he left, we took off.

i think it's very important.. when's the last time any our our recruits saw us win a bowl?

Personally believe that this Sun Bowl will define the Golden regime in one game and primarily mean Mark D'Onfrio and his inability to adapt or set the kids up for success with his scheme trumping all. The offense will score on their defense and it boils down to getting stops. Leach is probably in his office right now laughing asking his staff "what in the blue **** are they doing on defense?". Expect to be nickled and dimed all day long with the same stuff we've seen for 5 years under D'Onfrio. Will be surprised if WSU punts once.

If the coaching is unchanged, it's a win-win regardless of results.

If we win, then Richt can crow about it.

If we lose, he can easily disassociate himself from it (staff, scheme, play calling).

If it was important, Richt would coach the game, along with as many new hires as possible.

Richt would be stupid to coach that game. This team could win or lose, but there's too much baggage for it to be a good bet. A few weeks coaching isn't going to make this a different team.

Mark is probably too nice to use it as a pitch -- would want to slam Al. But some of the not quite so Holy assistant coaches can slide it out to the recruits.
