I'm young, so I didn't watch him play back in the day, but how good was he? Why didn't he make it in the pro's?

I am too but from what I understand he was supposed to start and then warren sapp came in and started to dominate and never looked back. Regardless rock is probably one of the most successful hurricanes we have with his wwe and movie accomplishments

Because he wasn't a particularly good football player.
In fairness, he did struggled with some back issues during his time at
UM, but that apparently was not an issue during his wrassling days.

Average to decent player who got injured.

He actually was a talented player who had a bright future ahead of him until he tore his ACL. He never fully recovered. He could have been playing tackle next to Sapp.

Yea, as the posters above said. He was a solid college player, on some really good teams. He got injured, they inserted Sapp (who was GREAT, by the way), and The Rock could never get his job back. As far as the NFL was concerned, by his own admission, he just wasn't good enough. Around that time, he probably had started to hear the calling from his "family business". The rest, is history.

I still have a couple programs from a few home games back in 93 with The Rock in them. He was a solid rotation player but nothing fantastic. Like many said, he probably would have started if not for Warren Sapp.

Marvin Davis was the guy who filled in for Sapp and Patrick Riley.....I never recalled Johnson doing much......he did play considerably during "garbage" time, bit the defense was bad whenever the backups came onto to the field.

I'm young to, 21, but from highlights he looked good. Had no idea Sapp took over, but glad he had a successful career in WWE and acting. Love reading about him in muscle and fitness mags.

Go Canes!!!!

The Rock was interviewed and was asked about his UM days. He said that Warren came into school and he knew after 3 practices that he wasn't going to start as long as Sapp was there.

There's a scene in Fast 7 where the Rock's character is laying in a hospital bed, watching a football game. The game on TV is the 93 Miami/FSU game. It's him sacking Charlie Ward.

He was awful. And LOL at all this "he wasn't going to play when Sapp got here" nonsense.

There was a spot next to Sapp in our 4 man fronts, but he couldn't play there either. There was also plenty of opportunity to be in a rotation at DT even if he wasn't as good as Sapp or Riley. But he couldn't produce there either.

Great dude. Awesome Cane. Bad player.
